How nice the last footballing memory of the best player in the last 10 years - RUINED.
Well at least he wont be mentioned in the same breath with Maradona and Pele.
Awful - hope he does not cost his country the trophy.
Of course he will be remembered with Pele and Maradona.
Was Maradona remembered for the "hand of god" and years of cocaine abuse or his football? Zidane will always be one of the holy trinity.
Still a ridiculous headbutt though.
Maradona overcame so much to achieve all he did - the downs are remembered because they highlighted the glory so much more.
I just feel ZZ does not have the character to pull off that sort of status. I just cant ever think I will sit around telling my kids in years to come about a wonderful player from the 90's called Zidane. I can imagine telling a story about the biggest idiot in a world cup final ever though.
Agreed ridiculous incident.
Sorry but Maradona was a diver, a cheat, a blasphemor, a criminal and a druggie. The worst kind of role model. What exactly did he overcome? Being the highest paid player of his time is not exactly a life of suffering.
Zidane was more or less straight up, played hard, took it and gave it out. I very much doubt his reputation will be destroyed over one incident.
I know which one my kids will be hearing about.
Still a very sad end to thee man.
Maradona will be the story coming from my mouth TBH, Zidane has fcuked it all in with one stupid moment, another example is -
Rivaldo - One of the worlds greats also, until the Corner kick incident where he held his face and got the guy sent off! that ruined everything for him.
Zidane is a thug, people always say, your only as good as your last Game/Performance.....well there you go
What a tosser

i think that what was said to zidane was awful and i can't repeat it hear as it is blatantly racist, but its what joe pesci calls the arabs in casino/
i wouldn't say best player ever, i don't think there is a best player ever.
I think his greatness will however out shine his rage tonight.
beckhams kickout v argentina?
maradona's hand of God?
In fact i think C. Ronaldo's diving and general bad attitude will be remebered a lot longer, he gets boo'd by all fans now, only dive he'll take soon will be his career.

someone lip read it and posted it on a french site someone msn'd me, goes along lines of
zidane, "you pinch like you play, like agirl."
nasty italian bloke,"thought pinching's(as in stealing) in your blood sand (n word)"
ref to Zidanes Algerian roots (well he's Algerian i think?)
It sound quiet plausable, something rattled him.
How true this is i don't know and obviously the French will say things like this to clear Zidane ,(why can't footballers count to ten and walk away???)
But it will all come out in the wash, if its true i think were looking at a serious ban.

I don't think any amount of naughty words justifies such thuggery.
Glad to see France go on to lose after that (although I was rooting for Italy anyway).
Arguably, aswell as it being idiotic (he doesn't get the chance to dance about with a cup on the telly if France win) it's also kinda cowardly. It was his last game of football, kinda like telling the boss to f*** off on your last day of work.
Also, if you're going to nut someone, f**cking nut them properly is what I say. Bollox to the rhino bump in the chest, he should knocking the boys nose off.
Sure Zidane had a fantastic career at football but that sorta shite he pulled tonight just taints his entire nation when they were playing on the biggest stage.
It was supposed to be a fantastic festival of football. I don't think the strictest referees in history got quite the celebration of sportsmanship they were hoping for.

To be fair, I'll always remember Zinedine Zidane.
Not for his faboulous football, not for his fiery temper, but for reversing the direction in drink while you think.

If Zidane is a tosser then what does that make Maradona?
One headbutt can ruin a career but years of cheating, criminal activity and drug abuse can't?
I think perspective is needed here.

It was a great headbutt.
However I'm sure it was unintentional. So to be sent off
was quite harsh.

Beckham isnt great, the fore there is no greatness to shine through for him after the Argy incident.
and can people please please stop using C Ronaldo as a bloody Scape Goat for Englands shiteness! - its sounding like a badly sung broken record.

LOL @ at this guy having the nerve to call something else a broken record... you spend half your time on here telling England and its residents how crap we are. Maybe YOU should try changing the record.
