I think Tikay would aggree, without 0 we had no way of calculating the stress the boilers could handle, or the maximum load the train could pull, Even Tikay would see the bigger picture here, without 0 we would not have trains as we know them.

Is zero really an invention or just the image chosen to represent the point between positive and negative?

The best invention ever is Star Wars! Fact.

Didn't Star Trek beat it for the most loved TV production?

Let's not be silly now. Spock or Yoda? Not much of a contest eh?

Zero? Someone compared Star Wars to Zero? Shoot me!

Yes, you compared starwars to 0, you said it was the better invention, and starwars is more like artwork than invention, its a fantastic creation that has deep roots, and as I posted, without 0 we would not have the starwars we know and love.

still waiting for a better invention.

Thats my point exactly, we never had a point between positive and nevative before 0, hence its huge importance.

Binary language for examples are 101001001010101

modern math makes no coherent sense without 0

without modern math we would not have any of the inventions we are talking about.

Strange the way we all rely on nothing so much without realising it

That isn't an invention. It is something every living thing does to reproduce

When something is neither positive or negative it is in equilibrium, so whether we knew how to represent 0 or not is irrelevant - it was always "there". 0 is just the symbol we use.

yes, but we never knew it was there before the arabs Invented it, ( i'm sure it was the arabs). after that point we made astonishing leaps as a race, scientific formulae was born, math became a pure language of science, The impact of having 0 is staggering.

We didn't know X-Rays were there before they were discovered but they were still there! 0 is not an invention IMO, it is a discovery.

I agree 101% about it's impact just not about it's being called an invention.

exactly, without the symbol 0 for zero we would still be going about things the hard way, that likke symbol for nothing had impacted so many major changes since its introduction its frightening.

6 years ago we had to fix a huge problem caused by 0, so many comnpanies and govenments had to change their computersytems because of NOTHING!! or in this case 0
