Losing to Cardiff was a given. I should always listen to my Dad who told me we always lose 2-1 to them! fml.

I think we deserved exactly what we got from the game, but when we got the equalizer you could sense they started twitching and we had our chance to take the game away from  them Sad

O'Brien is great for the Championship, Cardiff offered him a nice deal too. He came back to Leeds and said he would sign for us and not Cardiff if we matched the offer. Deal done, he does not have an agent so Bates was happy to get him without any fuss.

Becchio's new deal was a little more delicate to sort out as Bates has problems with his agent and I think a 3rd party person was brought in to mediate the deal in a pub in Leeds.. It would cost QPR alot to get him now we have tied him up to a long term contract.

Hansn't Warnock got enough strikers already? Smith, Clarke, Hulse, Mackie, Helguson

Pleno, you don't know what you're talking about mate, O'Brien is brilliant, he reads the game better than any centre back i've seen since Woodgate and Radebe.

He will be getting torn a new one by Marouane Chamakh on Saturday though.

Clarke is terrible and will be gone after this season.

Agyemang is being offered around as a makeweight in any deal that brings in a new striker. (Austin?)

Smith is really good but isn't really the man to score 20 goals a season.

Mackie has gone right off the boil at the wrong time. And he will never be a Premiership striker anyway.

Helguson started the season strongly (it looked like he no future with us - that's why he bought Hulse) but like Mackie, he isn't performing at the moment.

Hulse is aloways injured.

Alan Smith back to Leeds? Thoughts?

I'd hate to have him back.

Don't think he'll come tbh the main issue would be the wages.

We do need a MF while kilkenny is playing for Australia in the asian cup though, there's people like M.Johnson out there who are better.

Bit of Leeds love from WACCOE

One of the (many) irritations of growing old is that you have to put up with spotty little pundits who weren't even born spouting shite about the era you grew up in and passing it off as history. The "dirty Leeds" thing is a classic example of this - a lazy cliche that is passed on from one generation to another until it becomes an accepted truth for people who weren't around to see what really happened.

Yes, we had a few lads who could dish it out if the occasion arose. Every team did. Even those footballing saints from Old Trafford had notorious tough nuts like Paddy Crerand, Bill Foulkes and Nobby Stiles. They also has less well-remembered butchers like Carlo Sartori, John Fitzpatrick, Jim Holton, etc. who all seem to have mysteriously been written out of football history. Fuck me, they even signed the unadulterated clogger and nutcase Ian Ure at one point. Ure, of course, came from that other football purist's haven at Arsenal, where you could also find thugs like Peter Simpson and Peter Storey. Everton's so-called "school of science" also found room for a monster like Sandy Brown and lads who could put it about like Joe Royle, Jimmy Gabriel, etc. And I haven't even started on Bill Shankly's gang of assassins at Anfield or the Chelsea lot who systematically kicked us to death in the 1970 FA Cup Final yet.

If you want fact and not half-arsed Chinese whispers, then we were far from being the dirtiest team of that era (the worst I ever saw was the Southampton side with Brian O'Neil and a gang of other ugly monsters whose names have thankfully faded from memory). The real reason we were feared in those days was for our footballing ability. Read Hunter Davies's book Glory Game and you'll see what I mean. He records the genuine fear of the Spurs players at having to play at Elland Road - not a fear of being kicked to death but a fear of being played off the park.

As others have mentioned, there was a crackling atmosphere at our away games, but it was more a form of respect for our footballing ability than anything else. Everybody knew we were the best team in the land, even if we did so often falter at the end of the season. It made the hairs stand up on the back of your neck to be in one of those crowds and hear the reaction to our boys, especially Bremner.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I've seen only a handful of club sides in my 45 years of watching the game who I would rate as highly as that Leeds team (Ajax in the early 70s, Milan with their Dutch trio, and the current Barcelona side) and none of them did it for so long as we did.

I went to reserve my Dad and my season tickets for the Arsenal game today.

Had to queue up for 35 mins on a Friday morning, no wonder no one ever answers the phones.

I felt sorry for this fairly old bloke in front of me. He didn't look the brightest (although that may narrow-minded of me given the Susan Boyle effect i think what i'm about to say should confirm) and he casually strolled upto the desk after queuing for ages and said:

"Ey up love, can i have a ticket for the Arsenal game please.
"Are you a member sir?"
"No, what is that"
"You need to be a member to book tickets for this game due to the high demand, would you like to become a member?"
"aye go on then"
"Can i have your post code please sir"
"I don't know it"
"You can't become a member unless you know your address and details"
"Nevermind, can i have a ticket for tomorrows game against Scunthorpe please"
"You can, that will be £28 please"
"For a game against Scunthorpe!!!! I'll leave it thanks"

Kind of feel sorry for him. Quite an old guy and probs hasn't been to a game for years and just wanted to check out the Arsenal game. Barring that he probably had no idea tickets nowadays are very expensive. Poor guy had to queue for ages and didn't even end up getting a ticket for any game.
