Well, I'm in Brighton, I'm at the Grosvenor, I've given out the usual Blue Square bits and bobs, I'm not allowed to play, so heck, why not do an update.

74 players have turned out for the main event of the Brighton Summer Shaker Festival. So, who's gonna be shaking that money maker some time tomorrow?

Some of the hopefuls include:

Steve Bovis
Jeff Burke
Matt Cartwright (Blue Square qualifier)
Dave Colclough
Joe Conlan
Ronnie Debeaulox
Maria Demetriou
Joe Grech
Martin Green
Sid Harris
Tony Kendall
Chris Macleod (Blue Square qualifier)
Tom McCready
Stuart Nash
Paul Parker
Luke Patten
Nicolas Risdale (Blue Square qualifier)
Jeff Rogers
Peter Singleton
Ian Woodley

They have been playing for about 25 mins, having gotten underway 30 mins later than the 8pm advertised start time. Personally, I would prefer they got it underway on time, but some UK traditions are slow in changing.

Flushy is a no show. Something to do with lack of sleep.

Got some pics on the way, bear with me...

When he's not cuddling up to Jeff, or in a hand, this is Tikay's reading material.

There has been a rather noisy cover band playing up at the bar here. To counteract its effects, some players have donned oversized headphones.  Dave Barnes wishes he had remembered his.

Maria is having a great time, playing every pot, not snoozing at all. OK, so I lied.

We are now well into level 2 (one hour clock, 10,000 chips) and we are yet to lose a player. OK, so its a double chance, but even so, usually someone has misread their hand and done thier chips in by now. Cardroom manager Elliot Jenkins has just told me that 19 of the 74 players have so far taken their double chance option.
