Hi guys,

I noticed a lot of talk about students in one of the other topics and decided it would be a good idea to start a new thread on the issue. I myself am a university student and can't get enough of poker, online or live. What is everyones opinions of student players? Not only do we have poker within the university but inter university tournaments are becoming more frequent and students are benefiting by improving rapidly. Are people worried that students have so much access to poker that they will become bigger and better than many current players?

Should students be encouraged to play poker with such financial restraints? It is a fact that many students run up huge debts hrough online poker. Also, should poker within the university be legal and is it encourgaing gambling? We have an excellent, well run poker society, yet cash games still occur despite being illegal. Does this need to be addressed

Sorry if I went on a bit, however I am interested in people's views on student players, especially those of the "older" generation.

students have never needed an excuse not to study or to run up huge depts. I do fear poker will get blamed for it though.

what Uni do you go to mate and does it have a poker society? if so could shuffleupshirts come up and set up a stall / provide some shirts to add to the prize pool?

Being a student myself I can add me 2p's worth. I can honestly say I wouldn't be able to financially cope WITHOUT poker, the loans and grants are a pittance to live on at the best of time, let alone when a "mature student" with children, through the summer months especially ( no financial assistance at all)

As far as I have been able to find out so far, we have no poker society and most of the "student players" I know are at very small stakes or just for fun Sad. There has recently been a casino built next to my Uni, so I can assume that that may change soon LOL. In fact, it's the one Tikay is going to on thursday!

Regarding the debt situation I was thousands in bank debt this time last year when i discovered online poker, but am now comforably in positive figures so it can be a solution to debt rather than a causer of debt if you know what i mean.
