I do - and as a regular member of the forum i moreoften know when members are joking and when they are being serious. However to outsiders, casual surfers or people looking to register for the first time they dont know the difference and its those people you want to be encouraging - not the likes of me!!

There are posts being made on Football threads which quite obviously are being made for the purpose of winding up other people. Whilst in perspective this isnt as bad as sectarian abuse, the people resposnsible for these posts maybe need to take a long hard look at themselves, and ask if their foolish baiting of fellow forum members achieved the desired results.

Charlton are PANTS as well !!

the other person made a post, his first post, that was particularly vile. The mods removed it and banned him immediately

the post referred to quoted above by tikay ("step up big boy")was in response to this deleted post

the ban was not because of anything said in a PM but because of what that post beginning "step up big boy" said.

Tighty, I'll make this brief for fear of continuing this thread when it should die, I hope this "new" poster has had his IP cross referenced (and checked for subnet, ISP, a range of possible candidates generated) and then the actual member banned. Otherwise it simply sets the message that if you want to flame other posters, get a new IP and make a new account. I'm sure Ironside has this in hand but I thought I would ask.

How far do u take this? Jock is percieved as offensive to many jocks.

I agree Mikky, I have mentioned this before but nothing was done. Calling the Scots Jocks is historicaly a derogatory term and offensive, similarly calling the Irish Micks or the English Poms.

It seems to be tolerated by a lot of the Scots on here, perhaps they just don't want to rock the boat and some perhaps genuinely don't care, but I think since we are having a clear the air session and defining what is acceptable, perhaps we could consider avoiding the use of these terms, even if you consider it to be in jest.

I used to live abroad and whenever the word Jock was used it was derogatory, Scots on the otherhand is perfectly acceptable. Not a big change, but much appreciated.

Cheers,

Eoan
