a borrower nor a lender be

Well I say that Dewi, but I still end up making mistakes, & lending money bad, from time to time. Some of us will never learn. But it's sometimes hard - & wrong - to reject a genuine overture from someone who seems OK, & is in a spot.

It never ceases to amaze me that people have a very naive view when staking poker players. Why are they busto? Because they are degenerate! Whenever i have either here or live (Gala Notts for example) I have always written it off in my records and if I do get a bink/paid back it always then a nice bonus. I had one guy I long term staked who stiffed a load of us on another site but he eventually paid back  err... 18 months late Smiley

ditto, my record includes Fergus, Riverdave and that other one that was going to play on Tilt.  To be fair, I've got it all back, thankfully.

I was referring to loans, rather than staking, Simon. When I stake anyone, I write that money off immediately, as you do, & if I get a return, happy days. You don't expect to get stakes back, you hope, but you should expect to get loans back if the people have any class. In a way it comes down to bad judgement of character on the lenders part (or my part), really.

everyone who staked penly is/was a sucker/mug. Any kind of research into him and you would find he didnt pay flushy back his wsope plo touch.

If you ever hear anything dodgy about someone, even a rumour just avoid.

lol, he paid me quicker than someone else paid back their wsop stakers

The best stake I ever made was Simon Trumper. I had a piece in some PLO at the Vic, and my transfer vis dtd online hadn't gone through when he binked. He could easily have said no return but hes definitely a honourable guy.

I ask for stakes occassionally.

The reason?

The exes kill you in big tournaments.

Let's say it's a £5k tournament in London taking 4 days.

It will cost me £100 train fair, plus 4 x £100 per night in a hotel.

I might try and sell 40% of my action at 1.25:1.

It works out that I am playing a £3k event expenses free. That works for me, and I hope gives good value to stakers.

What makes you think that people being staked are busto and degenerate?

I stake a few people long term none of whom are degenerates. They are also not completely busto but they prefer to spend their earnings on living expenses rather than poker.

I myself am on a long term stake and I can assure you that I am very far from busto and reasonably far from being a degenerate.

I know this. I have well over a thousand pms and can't remember doing it before unless purely for humour purposes and knew the other person wouldn't mind.

However, I felt I had to in this one instance as my memory of what happened was initially a little different from how things actually were when I checked my outbox.

Happy for you to write how your recollection was a little at odds with the facts Cos, but not a wholesale copy and paste, sorry

I do the same Tony, but it's not bad advice!

The very last hand of the night goes to Dewi James, who finds ACES and talks Raymond O’Mahoney into calling his all-in preflop bet of 15k.  “If I had AQ, I’d call!” says Dewi.  Raymond calls holding pocket 66’s.
