I think Nick Slade has been a little concerned of late that I'm giving him a bad right up and making him look like a lucky git. True, he's had a few hands where he's relied on a suck out, but I'd be the first to say that he's a top notch player, you can't win these comps with a bit of luck and I'm sure he's played some good poker to get this far, his results in the UK speak for himself. As Matt Tyler said a couple of days ago, "Nick is one of the worst players to play against because you never know where you stand with him."

Here are a few faces you might not recognise: Christoffe Stahle, Ray Coburn and Jonas Helness.

They all look like they're doped up on Thorozene...

Erling Nicolaisen is OUT, vs .

Board:

Pat O'Callaghan gets a bit of luck against Luca Pagano with A-J vs J-J. The board came 7-T-5-8-9. Rob Yong and Nick Slade both passed an Ace each.

Flop = Two Diamonds

Helness bets 45k into a 50k pot and Stahle folds.

As a result, Stahle is down to 200k whilst Helness, who was chip leader at the start of the day, is up to 175k.

Watching Stahle play a few hands, he is probably one of the calmest, most calculated players here. He takes his time on every decision and seems determined not to make any forced errors. He is also very quiet, barely a peep out of him. But whilst this makes him a less colourful player at the table, it does mean that he plays with a welcome sense of politeness that so many players lack. I can't imagine this chap banging the table.

Rob Yong has doubled up to around 90k, he pushed from the small blind with and got a call from the big blind's rather imposing .

Flop:

No help...

Turn:

River:

Yongsta got a stack that can do damage now.

What are his UK results?

I believe he mainly plays in Blackpool, and whilst he's won around 20k this year on the UK festival circuit, I often spot his name at the top of the local comp lists when the results come in. The £20 rebuys, £100 Freezeouts and so on begin to add up after a while, and he seems to win more than his fair share of them. As does Reyaaz Mulla, who is railing Slade from the er... rail with Ash Hussain and Matt Tyler.

When he won the above pot, Rob stood there unbelieving, shaking his head and then uttering the following before he sat back down

"Sick, isn't it..."

Nick Slade's in the thick of the action again, heavily supported by the rail.

Nick raises preflop to 24k and Conor Doyle smooth calls.

Both check the 5c-Jd-8s Flop before Conor makes a big 100k bet on the 6 of spade Turn.

Nick spends a lengthy spell in the think tank and appears to be serious about calling.

"Bit nervous?" he asks. "S***ting it," replies Conor.

"Will you show me if I fold?" "I'm thinking of calling here." "I reckon I might be a head." "That's a big bet."

After a while, Nick opts for a fold, but doesn't get to see his opponent's cards.

He folded, but I think part of him was dying to make the call. One of the problems was that Conor had another 40k left behind him, so to play the hand would probably cost Nick 140k in total - not a figure you should take lightly at this stage.
