I think that this is quite an interesting hand. Unfortutnately pokertracker for some reason chose to ignore it so I'm not entirely certain of the precise details.  However hopefully I have the main points correct.

The game is 6 handed £2/£5 on crypto, effective stacks £500

A new player joins the game, posts 2nd utg and checks. Folded to me on the button.  I have QdTd and decided to pick up the money and makes it £25 to see the flop.

The new player calls.

What kind of hand do you put him on?

Flop comes 9xx 2 spades, I c-bet about £50 he calls

Turn - he bets 80, what do you do?

I call

River two spades he bets 100, I make it £250 - he goes allin

Anyone for calling?

I don't play cash games but

I have a feeling that whatever he has, you are behind.

his bet on the turn is rather inviting and his small bet on the river screams to me - call me or re-raise me.

Did you mistype this hand or something?  Or are the board and cards you have written down right?

Maybe not entirely correct, but I have no hand if that is what you are driving at.

Ok I folded and he showed 7c8c.

What was the key hand reading and subsequent betting mistake that led to this humiliation?

Ahh a battle of wills with hands full of bollox!,  Those are fun, Dunno that I would have thrown the last $250 at it though.

if I had got to the river, id just push it in, it avoids giving him the chance to 3-bet bluff the river... but saying that, I wouldn't have got to the river against someone that posts a dead-blind UTG+1

You have the betting mistake (I gave him 2-1 that I was FOS) but what is the hand reading mistake?

Please elaborate on why you wouldn't have got to the river vs a player that posts UTG=1?

I figure if they dont have the patience to wait two hands and post the BB, they are more likely then average to be a bit of a loose cannon... so once they call preflop, and you miss royally, id be tempted to either give up there or make a smaller flop c/bet and then shut down on the turn.

I thought about this hand, i have a question for you doubleup,

Do you think this flop was good for you to bluff or  it was better for him to bluff. (you raise him, the flop ragged, the turn another rag/flush) what does he think you have?  what kind of hand are you trying to represent here?

And would it not be better to push him on the river/ or re-raise on the turn?  I mean you are trying to pull off this bluff so you have to be prepared to go all they way (or I am wrong here)

I am asking because i am trying to learn and not pick up a fight.

If he has put you on big cards- and he is not stupid, then he can  be safe in the assumptions that this board not helped you at all.  (unless you are lucky)  Or I am completely wrong in my reasoning?

Yes not pushing on the river was the huge mistake on this hand.  The hand reading mistake was that had to have a hand pretty much like he did.  Having posted early (maybe confused by the new crypto software?), he would be pretty certain to raise any pair or ace.  He then calls my raise so his hand type is pretty readable.

I felt that he didn't have a flush on the turn, so called to see what the river would bring.  Bad play again as I didn't have a clear plan.

When I call he probably puts me on a pair/ big cards.  A player better than me can actually make a call on the river as given his probable hand type his allin must be a bluff.

All in all it was a very badly played hand by me.  I've been trying to bring some more complex plays into my game, but it's clear that my hand reading skills aren't good enough yet.  The classic sign of the poor play is that I think I'm bluffing but actually have the best hand.....

I would have raised his turn bet. If he calls or reraises then i give him respect for a hand (which he either has or he just doesn't believe i have a hand) and let it go. When i read your , i thought he just had the  at this point and i would have passed on the river.
