Tit is an understatement. Unless you can carry off a good pair of designer sunglasses you really shouldnt be wearing them.

I think you may aswell just wear a sign on your head saying 'dead money'

I spend a high percentage of my life in front of my computer. When I go to a live cardroom I sometimes find them a little bright and my eyes get tired if I sit there for any longer than 6 or 7 hours (rare in a tournament for me I admit). I find myself getting headaches if I sit in a bright cardroom because of this. I wear sunglasses for this reason and this reason only, if you think I look a tit fine- I ain't trying to look good for you, its a necessity for me.

I think it depends. Sunglasses look good on some people. Some people wear them for practical reasons. Some people for a little confidence boost.

Marcel Luske can even pull off wearing them them upside down!

I cannot believe you said Greg Raymer looks like a tit

Am i the only one who thinks people who wear sunglasses at a poker table look like proper tits?

Oops......

For the last 3 weeks, I've been wearing shades at the table.......

My eyesight has become so poor, that in seats 2, 3, 8 & 9 I can just about see if the board cards are paint or non-paint, red or black. I have NO chance of seeing the diference between, say,  and   .....

So I got myself some new specs, & they offered me a pair of prescription shades free of charge. Well, free with the £600 I'd just spent.....

Anyway, I've seen all the cool dudes wearing shades (you seen the two guys in Chips?) so I've joined them by way of "trying it out", hoping I'd look super sexy, & women would throw themselves at my feet. The jury is out so far, there have been a limited number of such incidents. Very limited, actually, but I imagine they are just shy.

Actually, whisper it quietly, I think, in many cases, flushy is right.

As for the donks who imitate Marcel by wearing shades upside down, I must say, they DO look complete tits. I must try it.

I would wear sunglasses at the table, I don't give a monkeys what I look like, I just like to watch people without them knowing I'm watching.

I don't wear them because I can't see the cards on the board properly.

Marcel wears them upside down so that his eyes are hidden, but he can still see the cards by peeking beneath them.

What a vain, judgemental lot you are. (except me)

I agree with you flushy. sunglasses at the poker table are daft. I tried wearing them at my home games a while ago to see what it felt like and I have to admit it is comfortable. As Reddog said you get to study who ever you like without them knowing.

It you stare intensely at someone it's confrontational. if you are staring at someone and they turn and stare back the animal instinct gives both parties an uncomfortable feeling. one has to look away or the hackles go up.
So I can understand why people like to wear them. It's a barrier against that feeling. I decided that I'd learn to be comfortable without that barrier. you can get a lot of information from how people react when they know you're watching them, much more than if they don't know I think. I think concealing your true feelings about your hand is a big part of poker and I think hoods, shade and caps pulled low are an easy solution or at least an aid to this difficult part of the game. Thats part of the reason Im so against over use of the string bet rule. if some one makes a bet by cutting out stacks of chips and you react by looking more and more uncomfortable at the chips keep coming you really have to work on yourself. a poker player shouldn't be reacting to things like that.

I found dealing and playing at the same time at the casino a big help. when dealing you have to look at the person who is next to act. if they're facing your bet, genuine or not you have to still look them in the eye and answer questions about the size of the pot / bet / etc. if I'm holding a monster or am at it (happens sometimes believe it or not) then I think I give very little away because of this experience. you can't really deal with shades on.

some people seem to play poker as an adrenalin sport. emotions running high, banging tables shouting and swearing. If poker players learned to control their emotions there'd be less of that but probably also less sunglasses.
