Ok, this was part of a drunken conversation last weekend and is leading somewhere, what would win in a fight between a mongoose and an adder?

The lion and tiger fight question, to me is as simple as who would win a fight between Nicky Santoro and Luca Brazi.
You can look as vicious as you want, the gentic makeup of the two is very similar though, so it's all coming down to the body mass at the end of the day.
When a lion hits the tiger, it's going to hurt more than the other way round. That'll make the difference in a proper animal ruck.

A lion live on the plains of Africa, whereas a tiger live in dense forest or jungle.
Therefore whoever wins will be decided by the venue - open ground, I'd go for the lion, otherwise it would be the tiger.
