The lion and tiger fight question, to me is as simple as who would win a fight between Nicky Santoro and Luca Brazi.

You can look as vicious as you want, the gentic makeup of the two is very similar though, so it's all coming down to the body mass at the end of the day.
When a lion hits the tiger, it's going to hurt more than the other way round. That'll make the difference in a proper animal ruck.

While I've tussled with many a python in my time, I am not familiar with the physical potential of yer average mongoose.
