You are playing NL Cash. You and foes each have in excess if 100xbb. Lets say it is 2-4 to 5-10.

You raise in late postion with for example 

the big blind, an aware player who will routinely play back, flat calls


the flop comes for example  two spades

He checks, you c-bet somewhere between three-quarters to the pot

He c-raises all in. His range can be TPTK, a set, two pair, outside chance of made flush. Lets say your notes suggest to you that he has a made hand of some sort, and isn't doing it on the non nut draw.

Are you typically putting your whole stack at risk here?

Against a player who might play back I would on occasion. I can't see many hands check-calling on this flop.

If I'd raised pre-flop..yes I might if I thought the player was capable of check-raising me here. 9 out of...well 11 times I would raise though.

Presuming you raised 4BB pre-flop, once he has matched your flop call there is approx 22BB in the pot.

Against the made hands you mention (set, TPTK and 2 pair) we are dogs of approx 28%, 43% and 36% respectively. If we consider each hand equally likely then we are approx 2/1 against to win the hand.

Therefore calling an all-in against anyone with more than another 22BB behind them is negative EV.

Realistically I would imagine his range would be slightly bigger, so I'd probably call another 30BB or so, but never the 90BB+ that he has.

Also, against a "typically" opponent, you should be betting this flop every time. 1/2 to 2/3 pot should be sufficient.

Tank is right i pass, i would check the flop though, that way he can't outplay you, if he bets the turn u can raise.
