Trace T during a Limit HE game one night on VC,  I had heard of it before while reading a conversation between two players on pokerstars while I was observing, but I had no idea what 'Blonde' actually was until I was told by Trace

Dave & I kinda knew each other "across the tables". He was a star, I was in awe of him, I was a muppet grinder, we both knew that. But I think he noted my table behaviour & manners, he goes for that sort of thing.

He had endured a torrid time when we first got to know each other, he'd done his bankroll on a shocking run of bad luck/form, & some business interests had gone belly up, so he was on his uppers, financially. How did he solve that? He went back to the £20-ers at Walsall. After enduring a long "no finals" spell, he suddenly went white hot, won comp after comp, & was soon back playing with the big boys. We chatted aboot this run at the time quite a lot.

Soon after, my long-term Partner (10 years) Wendy decided it was time to move on, & I got a "Dear John" letter, & I was devestated. (Still am, actually). I had retired already, aching to spend the rest of my life with Wendy, & suddenly my life was empty. So I threw myself into poker writing - initially Tournament Reports on The Hendon Mob Forum, (which were well-received, if I may make so bold, & I loved doing them) & then on to contributing stuff to Poker In Europe & CardPlayer. I often stayed up all night writing, as I was not sleeping well at the time, & it took my mind off Wendy.

Dave had already decided to start blonde, with Rhowena, but needed a writer. We bumped into each other one night at Walsall, he offered me the role, & a share in the company, & I went away to think about it. I saw him in Brighton a few nights later, & we shook hands there & then.
