Green Joker Poker Festival

So it starts today, but last night Jen and I went to play the €50 rebuy, trying to see if we could get in the tournament cheaply. The club itself is pretty much brand new, (in fact they're still fitting it as we enter). The structure for the satellite was good, 2k chips and a 30 minute clock with 90 minutes for rebuys. 3k chips for a rebuy and 5k chips for the add-on. After the rebuy, the clock went down to 25 minutes but the dealers were all excellent and it didn't feel like a crapshoot. The actual structure itself was basically the same as the GUKPT, complete with running antes (for a satellite? I know!). I managed to knock out an early short stack with Q-Q against T-T before losing all my chips with 7-6 against Q-J on a K-T-8-9 board. After a rebuy and an add-on, it became a bit of a limpfest, 4 people limped, so I did two with
on the button, and the blinds made up.
The flop came
which was checked round, then on the turn was a beautiful
, the small blind now bets 600, the big blind calls, the utg limper and one other limper both call. I re-raise to 3k, the big blind and the utg limper both call, the other two fold. The river is the
, a nice blank as I'm up against a flush draw and a two pair/one pair with a straight draw combination. They both check, I bet 3.5k, the big blind passes, and the utg limper calls with
.
Shortly afterwards the guy who had called me in the previous hand, re-raises my 1,050 open raise from 2nd position (with 9-9) to 2,700, he only has 8,000 back. I pass after convincing him to show, he shows 8-8, yuck. A few hands later, mid position open shoves for about 5k, (blinds 150/300/25) I look down and have 9-9 again, I've got about 16k at this point, average being about 14k, and I don't think he has a big hand, at most he has overcards, so I call and he shows 8-8. Hurrah! Got this one right, I house up and am up to 22k. A few hands later, the A-2 guy (who is a bit of a calling station) limps utg again, a new player also limps for 300 too, I look down and have Aces on the button. I pop it up to 1.5k, utg calls, other guy folds. Flop is 4-5-6 rainbow, he checks to me and I bet 3,500 into the 4,250 pot. He check/raises all-in for 6,025 more. I call and he shows 3-3, turn is a 6, but the river is a 2 and I lose a 22k pot which would've given me 2 and a half times the average stack. Instead I'm back down to 10k and the blinds go up to 200/400/50.
I limp utg+1 with 6-6, and the A-2 guy makes it 1,700 from mid position, passed round to me and I decide to make a play, with 3k in the pot, I think a push will take him off many pairs bigger than mine, and I think he can only call me with JJ+ or AK+, so I push for 10k and I get insta-called by Kings. Oops.
Jen however, despite playing only 3 hands in the first 3 levels struggled manfully on, but sickeningly she finished 9th, (7 seats, €190 for 8th) when her Kings were cracked by Jacks (who called for 3/4 of his stack) which 4-flushed. We drink lots of rum and decide it's better to lose in the sat than today in the main event which...crap...starts in 40 minutes. We best go!

There's no internet at the club, so Antes up can't do live updates, and actually they do great updates imo, so I don't think it's fair to be so critical.
Well, Jen, Rookieitb and I are still in. Rookie may probably want to chirp and I'm sure Jen will add her own thoughts when she gets a minute. I started off slowly, missing a lot of draws and calling off about 2.5k on a
board with
against A-K and A-Q and missed the river. (utg min-raised! I can't pass for 100!) Gradually I built my stack back up and began hitting hands and taking down pots, I hit a flush with
against
then after dinner flopped a couple of sets too. Everything was going good and I built up my stack to around 26k which was about average, though my table gradually got tougher and tougher. On the last level with 30 minutes to go and blinds at 400/800, utg raised to 3000. Connor Smythe (or it Smith? Anyway he won the Stars warm-up last weekend) pushes for 16k, I look down and have
and push for 26k, utg passes, Connor flips
and turns the Ace which leaves me with just 12k, if I win I'm up to 45k but it's not meant to be, I lose another 2.2k passing
to a Eoin Olin (incredibly nice guy) re-raise who shows me
before check/raising a limper all-in with
on a
board and I ended up on 12.1k. Blinds start at 500/1000 tomorrow and Lloyd, who won this event last year, reminds me he came back from 4 and a half big blinds last time. So I've probably got an hour at least. I'm already wearing my shovetastic hat...

Homer is such a luckbox. I had to grind my way up, making it 600 to play 2nd to act with Ah
and getting called from the BB and Buttpn. The Flop was
, and when the BB checked i put out a feeler bet to see where i was, 1025. The button smooth calls and the BB then makes it 4k. I have 22k approx and they both have me covered. I flat call the raise and hope for a blank turn. But, alas, the button then shoves and the BB shoves too, i pretty much beat them both into the pot, and am happyto see them both drawing dead with
and
. A cheeky 66k pot to me
I had no other real hands but position raises and continuation bets got me up to 88k until i get involved in a bluff involving a 6.5k turn bet with
on a K 10 5 5 board, the guy, i must say, deserved an oscar for the time he took to put the rest of his chips in. He took so long that i basically folded before his chips went over the line i was so bored. I have finished the day with 73,400 so am happy with that.
PS, i have the easiest BB ever to steal too.............. (just dont tell her i said that!)

I am Average in every way. What a lengthy day, broken by the ray of sunshine represented by re-raising Ian Woodley at every possible opportunity (with the goods, every time, of course). Matt joined our table and it was generally fun listening to the two of them bicker... I won't regale you with any boring hands (for I have no drama to report), just my Quote of the month:
Ian Woodley: "[general nattering about previous hand]...and that didn't work. I might start just talking a pile of crap..."
Matt Tyler: "You know I can hear your thoughts..."
Oh OK I will just say that I am very pro this tournament - what a great structure and a lot of fun. Just have to wait and see what happens tomorrow...

Good luck to Rob Bright, a regular on the UK circuit who has had a luckless year, going very close in a couple of GUKPTs.
