It didn't seem like any of you on here wanted him to stay and I seem to remember a lot of booing at the end of games.
It helped Rafa that the fans hated Hicks & Gillette so much they didn't have time for Rafa. Not that that didn't seem justified.I never listen to 606 btw and am well aware that probably less than 1% of people on the radio are representitive of the proper fans.
The only thing I can say in our defence about Robson was he was over 70 and he kept getting the players names wrong, that's all I've got.
At the games I was at and even the ones I listened/watched remotely, I ALWAYS heard songs in support of Rafa.
Would be interesting to read back through this thread though and see what the split of opinion was (might actually do that when I have a spare hour). I think a lot of fans were frustrated by Rafa at times with some of his tactical decisions and his stubbornness, I certainly was, but he had my support till the end. I was also one who was happy with Hodgson coming in as well, but we'll see in time if I got that one wrong or not.
Obviously you no better than I do that's just how it seemed to me.
There have been some games shown on TV where all you can hear is one set of fans - and I've come back from the game thinking how great the singing and the atmosphere was, and yet on telly none of that comes through. I guess that's just a case of where the mics are placed - rather than anything deliberate.
There were a significant, and vocal minority who definitely wanted Rafa out. I guess that those who wanted him out could shout more vociferously towards the end of last season than those who wanted him to stay.

I think Maxi is improving everytime I watch you.
Question - When Johnson is fit does Carragher get in the team?

Needed to though to be fair. Was dire really considering the calibre of player he is meant to be. We really miss Kuyt though.

I think Johnson will be off sooner rather than later. Was watching some of his performances from the start of last season and comparing them to those after his injury and this season. Poles apart. However, Carragher isn't a right-back, he's the first choice centre-back. At the moment, I'd have Carragher and Kyrgiakos as my starting partnership at centre back. Skrtel has been the worst player in the side this season, although he's been better the last two games.

Lol Kin are you Kuyt's agent ?, You seem to plug him in approx 75% of your posts on here.

No, I just see the team really struggling without him, especially with Gerrard and Torres playing well below par. The reason I mentioned him in my last post was because Maxi was being discussed, and he's currently playing in Kuyt's position. So although Maxi played OK yesterday, and obviously scored the goal that was vitally important, I still place Kuyt above him in the pecking order for that spot. Not sure how bad Cole's injury is, but if he's out for a while, Maxi will be played on the left I guess (maybe interchanging with Kuyt).

We all agree Benitez is a master tactician and that when he sets out to win a game he uses optimum strategy. So when we're talking about the poltical game, the power struggle, why are the fans convinced his tactics are so wholesome? If I was battling the owners in multi-million pound agendas I would think getting the fans firmly on my side was quite important. So personally I don't buy the Shankley comments, the calls to "fight", and the 96k all that readily. I think the guy's smart enough to manipulate any situation as he pleases.
What happened with Ayestaran? If the guy puts Liverpool first he works things out with this guy imo. And why does a guy who loves Liverpool people so bad ship in Spanish youngsters rather than develop this successful local talent? Why put a public for sale sign on key players? Why publically criticise players? I dunno I just don't like how the guy rolls. Maybe it was that goatee which made me sceptical. But clearly some of you guys have far more knowledge on the subject than I do and I can't argue the guy wasn't successful.
Incidentally, if my mate won 130 million and gave me 100k I'd be like WTF mate??
I wish Benitez was that good at media games/mind games tbh. This is the one thing he was absolutely atrocious at imho.
Ayesteran was negotiating being manager of another club behind his boss's back. Pretty obvious outcome imo. Maybe Spanish youngsters are better than English ones right now? (Results seem to point to this)

Agree about Maxi - super intelligent player, but there's a huge but, he's playing far to narrow. We'll have the same issue we had for years under Rafa before 08-09, when teams park the bus we struggle. This added to our defence being worse than it has in about 10 years makes for some more losses this season imo. Maxi would be better on the right of a front 3. We have too many who can play off the front man already. Gerrard, Cole, Kuyt, Pacheco etc.
Carragher>Skrtel. I think the best partnership we have right now would be Agger/Greek.

Blimey Dan, really? How would we defend against any kinda of pacey forward? Agger and X for me. Wasn't impressed with greek at all..but what a turnaround in the last few games. Very solid, I just hope the confidence he must have now, doesn't manifest into silly mistakes
Hate to say it but I think carra is a versatile squad player now.

Agger isn't fit.
When he is, it's him and Carragher. The partnership of Sami and Carragher wasn't the quickest, but they seemed to do ok.

Agger + 1 for me.
Very true though Dan. We're not that good now at dominating possession. A ball playing centre back isn't necessarily essential in this team. Carra and the Greek are very suited to what we need right now.

Damien Comolli appointed Director of Football strategy. ex Arsenal Scout, Spurs Dir of Football
reckoned to be a good appointment, to oversee scouting and recruitment overseas
thoughts?

Damien Comolli appointment at #LFC very interesting. Signifies move away from short-termism (which includes recent Poulsen/Konchesky deals)
henrywinter Henry Winter
#LFC need a chief scout with global connections so there's a role for Comolli. As long as he keeps out of Hodgson's way.
