What are the genuine expectations for this season then?
Assuming they can play the style Rodgers wants, and finance isn't an issue....
top 4? (got to knock a Manchester club, Chelsea, or North London club out of the top 4. tough!)
top 6?
win a cup?
Liverpool should be challenging for a top 4 spot (as we should have been doing last season).
When you say "finance isn't an issue" - it obviously comes into play. But whatever there is to spend, the team will definitely be playing in the style Rodgers wants them to play. Which should please the fans, as long as they're patient.

Saw the game last night - we looked awful.
Spearing looked outclassed, passing was poor, touches were heavy, it was horrible to watch. Glad to see Sterling get a decent run out after Cole's injury but he didn't seem to get in the game very well.
There were one or two bright sparks - it was good to see Lucas back and I'm quietly salivating at the thought of Suarez and Borini with Gerrard feeding them. Oh, and Downing's goal was a stunner, more of that please!

The new manager is obviously a genius. It's early August and Downing has already made more of an impact than he did during the whole of the last season.

looks like Bellamy and Agger could be the next out the door at Anfield. Really looks like the purse strings are tight these days after the crazy spending of Comolli and KK.
I do like the idea of BR being a lot more sensible with the clubs money but i do worry about losing a player of Agger's ability.
It seems like we are trying to clear some of the bigger contracts off of the wage bill in which case Cole should be the next on his way to the exit.
Letting Aquaman, Aurellio, Maxi and Kuyt go so far with only the signing of Borini im sure the wagebill is looking healthier.
Also heard talk of both Jones and Doni moving on in the goalkeeping dept. The squad does really need to be trimmed to give the youth players a chance to come through.
Of course the biggest issue of the summer is going to be what happens with Carroll, I really dont know what will happen but id like to see Adam sent off in an exchange package for Dempsey.

I reckon Agger being so good costs Liverpool. They are a different team (and Skrtel a different player) when he isn't around. As he isn't around that much I reckon getting rid and forcing everybody else to improve might work out well for them.

The standard of the opposition wasn't the highest last night of course, but from friends who were at the game they said that everyone was very positive about the approach Rodgers is taking and the way the side was set up to play.

Really enjoyed the energy and attitude in the match last night. I'm becoming quite optimistic about the coming season. Id say we are favs for 5th place right now.
Just hope we keep hold of Agger and can bring in 1 or 2 more signings.
