I'd hope you're right, but it could be that FSG bought the club at a knock-down price and are looking to make a profit over a short-term period (say half a dozen years), spend as little as possible and then get out.

Did FSG actually spend that much last summer, or did they just reinvest my money from sales on the whole?

I'd like to think they're serious about bringing success back to the club. The money spent on Allen and Sahin isn't insignificant, but has that been offset by the money saved by the departures of others, especially in terms of wages?

The failure to get Dempsey for what looks like a few million extra is definitely baffling.

FFS man, was so excited about Dempsey.

+1 to pretty much everything Maldini said.

ESPN tv in the US reporting whufc will have to buy Andy Carroll if they stay up, and a fee of around £20m agreed.

AC was spot on today and that was chiefly down to big Sam playing to his strengths. We all agree £35m was a crazy price but then again if he can keep a club like West Ham in the Prem year after year then he is undoubtedly worth that much. The real mystery is why KD bought him at any price considering Liverpool were never going to play long ball.

That can't be true. They might have an option to buy at that price, but they can't be committed to the purchase. What if he's awful?

Definitely a nightmare for defenders if the team plays to his strengths. Liverpool never had players round him (or Crouch when he was at Liverpool) picking up the second ball. Round hole, square peg, etc.

Should be an interesting game today between Liverpool and Arsenal. Surely not a 0-0...

Worst transfer window ever.

Thanks Kenny for spending 100million absolute tosh.

Allen and Sahin are good signings, and Adam and Spearing just aren't what Liverpool need. Carroll didn't seem to be part of Rodgers' plans. Borini could prove to be a very handy player.

It would have been nice to have got Dempsey, not sure what happened there. Could it be that FSG don't want to spend any more after what was signed last season (and for the amounts involved)?

Read the average age of the squad is about 23, who which is irrelevant to the discussion but interesting nevertheless.

Bolded part can't be right, surely?

Yeah, it's bollocks.

25.6 years according to that page.  Maybe the 23 referred to the average age of the new signings or something.

Why wouldn't Liverpool spend £6m on Dempsey, in the context of everything else that seems reasonable?

Very, very odd. 450k per week saved on wages this summer. Net spend about £17m. Weird.

Some of the top earners at the club now include Gerrard, Carragher, Cole and Downing, all of whom will be retired/sold in the next 2 years.

Reports in the US say the Red Sox have had a similar cull. Read into that and FSG as you will.

The Red Sox dumped over $250m in contracts to the LA Dodgers, in exchange for prospects...a rebuilding process

Borini. I know its early days, but is he ever going to put any effort in? Add Borini to the list of Anfield mysteries, as far as I am concerned

ESPN reporting we're thinking about Owen.

I'd rather go for the freebies Anelka or Drogba. Either way we need a forward.
