Having Sturridge in the side won't make any difference if we can't create openings.

This start to the season has just highlighted how dependant we were on Luis.

We also need to adapt our play at times to the players we have available.

Mignolet continues to look a liability

This.

I get your point, but Sturridge's movement helps create opportunities.

I'm fearful that the new Van Gaal philoshophy (spend £200m and chuck it all on the pitch) is going to pip Rodgers Southampton old boys & misfits philosophy for 4th place

This would be very bad, cmon the pool

It would be bad for me, as I'd lose the bet with George and have to wear a united shirt at a deepstack.  However, it looks like it'll be a battle between the two to get into the top half rather than the top 4!

That and he's made out of meringue.

If he's that good, why haven't another premiership or top European side got him? He definitely had the potential to be a top class defender, but his injuries hampered him considerably.

What's different from when we romped over Tottenham to our last few games?

Is it purely missing players, or something else? Obviously not having Suarez is a facet - but there's more to it than that. We fared very well when Suarez wasn't in the side.

Sturridge not being in the side is a massive factor.  When we didn't have Suarez, we always had Sturridge.

A number of sides are also playing with a support forward sitting on Gerrard at the base of your midfield. Agbonlahor did it to great effect

On Saturday Downing played at the top of a diamond and Gerrard gave him the freedom of the final third too, but that is a second point

the "pundits" think he might be declining, but its not so much that, its that he is less effective (and Liverpool less effective as whole) if he can't spray the ball around with someone at his heels

Rodgers needs to find a tactical and or formation response to this, as without Gerrard doing much Liverpool are far easier to defend against
