That makes it even worse that it's taken so long for the pardon!!!
What makes it worse? That someone who didn't do it, confessed, then recanted when he realised he would have to stand trial, and not just let his mate oot? Or that it took another four years for someone else to come up with an implausible stroy that they did it? If this guy did it, why has Straw and the police not spoken to him?

How the hell can the Home Secretary release someone based on a second hand conversation with the parents of the guy who is currently in jail? An absolute farce.

Still, Scousers being as public spirited as they are, will no doubt be about to run with their "Justice for Georgiev" campaign, to get this new "confessed" attacker rightfully put on trial?

Haha - you know the facts of the case.

Indeed, read quite a bit about it, this is the best summary though from all I've seen http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1495692/Innocent-gentle-giant-Or-remorseless-thug-guilty-of-attempted-murder.html

Your bit about him being released based on a second hand conversation - is that factually correct?

Well, until the quote, a direct quote of what Straw said, is proven to be incorrect, then yes, that is what clinched it according to out Home Secretary.

No matter anyway, the real thug will presumably now be dragged up to face trial? Justice for Georgiev.

I thought you were clued up on this?  So you're merely speculating based on a short report on the BBC website?  OK.

As far as the Bulgarian courts are concerned, Shields is the guilty man (despite the shoddy evidence used to convict him).  Why would they re-open the trial?

I see, so you don't want the guilty convicted, you'd rather have someone capable of dropping a slab onto someone's head running around Liverpool? I'm surprised.

Bulgarian guility is alot different from other countries proof of guilt. No idea why you bothering with this point, its obvious he was stiched up. Let it go.

Well as that's what been reported, I presume I'm as clued up as you, but if not, why don;t you post the reason why he has got out then, clearly there is some great secret here that hasn't been dropped into the public domain? I'm all ears.

Obvious? In what way? Someone did it, and that someone was a Liverpool supporter, and yet no-one has ever stepped forward to save their fellow fan and hand over the guy who is really guilty.

Having read reports on the case, Shields story is incredibly full of holes, of course that could just be his mates trying to give him an alibi, if so, then they should have come up with one that was in some way plausible, because the alibi's nail him more than anything else.

I watched the documentry on TV about his conviction and the case it was laughable how he was convicted. They HAVE to provide evidence he did it, not the other way around. If there is any doubt then he should not be in jail, sorry but thats how law works and apparently our govenment feel the same.

Someone did it? well no shit sherlock. But that does not mean he has to pay the price for no one else confessing.

I just dont get why you posting this.

You don't need a confession, it was a busy bar, tons of Liverpool supporters around, someone knows who did it.

It didn't take place in a bar.
