Talk of Anelka coming back now as part of the deal, imagine Carroll, Suarez, Anelka as new signings, you wouldn't wanna burgle any of them nutters!!

Can't really see Anelka coming back.  Then again, couldn't imagine us offering £35M for Carroll this morning - so what would I know.

@dannyberryexon: According to the Transfer Price Index, what is the current-day figure that Utd spent on Rooney? <- £49m. Shevchenko £53m

I guess the other thing with Carroll is his age.  He's 22 isn't he?  So unlike a striker in his late 20s, there's most of his career ahead of him to benefit from the transfer fee (even if it means selling him on in the future).

If all the expected transfers happen, then the window will look like this for Liverpool:

OUT: Babel + Torres = £56m.
IN: Suárez + Carroll = £57m.

IN: Young, Warnock  and Adam = £26m.

Total net spending in January: £27m.

Liverpool today signed 17-year-old Conor Thomas from Coventry City on loan until the end of the season with a view to a permanent move.

The central midfielder, who has represented England U17s, made his full debut for the Championship outfit in this weekend's FA Cup defeat to Birmingham City.

Thomas will be based with the reserves at the Academy.

This is an interesting take on Carroll & Torres:

Still talk that Young and Warnock might happen today.  Actually, Suarez is still not done yet...

Also good news that Carra is back in the squad. Hopefully that means there'll be a rest for Skrtel and Carra and steady the ship at the back alongside Agger.

So, although we have potentially a few more signings today I'm still slightly disappointed we haven't signed a left-back.  Nothing really being said about Warnock.  Aurelio is a decent left-back, but never fit for long enough.  Not at all convinced that Johnson is the answer there either.
