LOL @ this Twitter and LFC Forum Rumour I heard yesterday......

Sergio Auergio  - LFC and MCFC agreed fee with AMadrid, player's agent discussing terms.

would be the summer scope of the year if we got him, without CL football and prob less than 50% that City could offer him!

It got me through a 20min drive thinking about it, so no harm!

I would expect him to be able to get even more crosses in at Liverpool. The possession football Liverpool play at Anfield means he will see a lot more of the ball. Additionally the high intensity passing game means that when Liverpool stretch their oppos around the park he will see a lot more of the ball in space as well.

I don't think you actually watch Liverpool as they're incapable of doing any of the above.

As has been mentioned above, he has the same amount of assists as Theo Walcott and Theo's an appallingly bad crosser of the ball. Stats don't show the whole picture sometimes.

Can the person who said he created the most goal-scoring opportunities last year back that up with some proof? I find that incredibly hard to believe.

Quote fail.

Here's an interesting piece on Downing:

From Opta Index

Downing has averaged well over 30 appearances a season in the last 5 seasons. He has also managed to complete 135 successful crosses in the last 3 seasons. That’s more than any other player in the league. Only four players, some of the best ever Premier League midfielders, (Stevie G, Giggs, Fabregas and Lampard) have created more Premier League chances than Downing since 2004.

Fan of the Downing signing. Not sure anyone has answered how you fit a LFC system to accomodate Adam though!

Does a cross always equal a chance?

I mean, I could quite easily bring up the stat that shows that Fabregas made the most through balls last season (alongside the most assists) and I know which I consider more dangerous.

Just out of interest, for those of you who rate him, is he a 20million pound player?

Successful cross under Opta's definition = created a chance on target

There are a lot of players in the squad for this season, especially if we don't sell some of the players before the deadline.

There's been loads of debate on Liverpool forums about the 'starting XI' and formations, etc.  Basically, no one has a clue!  It will be very interesting to see what Dalglish does, and how much the squad is rotated.

Out of the squad, I'd expect to see the following as always/almost always in the starting XI:

Pepe (ldo)
Gerrard
Carroll
Suarez
Lucas
Kuyt
Carragher
Downing

and of course, some of those will be rested/suspended/injured from time to time.

If that's the case, then my starting XI might be:

Pepe
Johnson Carragher Agger/Kelly Robinson/Flanagan
Kuyt Lucas Gerrard Downing
Suarez Carroll

Not 100% sure of the formation, as if he goes for wing-backs and three centre-backs then that might change things around a bit.  Obviously, Henderson and Adam aren't in that list and I do expect them to play a fair few games this season as well.

I expect EVERY Liverpool fan to disagree with that XI, and I also think it will change throughout the season.  It's certainly a better state to be in than we were at the start of last season.

Can't see 442 being the weapon of choice for most Liverpool games.
Also don't buy that Charlie Adam can't play in a 442.

Rangers sold him for precisely that reason.

Blackpool did not play 442 in a single game Adam started

Holloway has also talked about having to change tactics to fit round Adam

So many options and possibilities as Kin says it's nearly impossible to predict who will play and in what foramtion.

I personally think Adam will see plenty of game time especially at Anfield, he can just get the pipe and slippers and ping them all over the place , Lucas will always be the shield he's guaranteed 30+ games imo.

We could have 4-3-3, 5-3-2, 3-5-2 or 4-4-2

I guess it depends who's fit and who we're playing and where, horses for courses and all that as someone else said we have a couple of back up plans if plan A goes tits up in any given match..

King Kenny knows what he's doing!   Roll on next season ( bit of a shame Uruguay are in the copa America final, we might miss luis at start of the season)
