An over-reaction indeed.  But hard to argue that the Suarez money has been wasted on a raft of ineffectual signings?  It's just like the Bale money at Spurs.

Almost all football clubs aren't worried about winning stuff any more, it is all about maximising revenue.

Liverpool know they have has much chance of winning the CL as I have of winning Slimcea Slimmer of the Year.

So they don't give a monkeys arse what happens this year, it is all about qualifying for next season.

Very very sad.

Risky from Rodgers as not only will this obv upset the fans, all the dropped Liverpool players going to be unhappy at missing this game.

That said, any Scousers questioning his position are beyond ridiculous.

What was his options when Suarez was sold ? They couldn't go out and replace him by signing a £50+m player because not many of them would sign for Liverpool, maybe Di Maria would've, absolutely no way I'd have considered paying what Man U did for him though. So he's told he can spend chunks, 99% of managers will spend most/all of the budget they are given so what more can he do than spend the kind of money he did on the kind of players he bought, yes he paid too much for some of them and obv you live and die by the transfers you make but it's pretty easy to point blame at signings like Balotelli, pretty sure the majority itt said he was a good signing and may still turn out to be.

Looked pretty decent in the first half, albeit under it a fair portion of the time.

Toure's best game in a Liverpool shirt.

What that game needed was Balotelli...

Compared to our previous games this was an improvement.

Looked more tenacious in the tackle and the closing down was a lot better than of late.

Was good to see plenty of options available whenever we went forward.

Particularly impressed by Can,whilst Toure and Lucas also did well.

Perhaps this "B " team performance will motivate the "star" players into performing at an enhanced level.

Not just the players, but Rodgers set the team up to try to manage Real's threats - rather than try to go toe-to-toe with them when they obviously have better players.  He's got to be as pragmatic against Chelsea this weekend.  Play a half-court press, and let Chelsea have the ball in their half.  Get bodies in the defensive half and stop Chelsea's rhythm, whilst looking to counter-attack at speed with Sterling and Llanana.  Obviously, I'd not have a place in the side for Balotelli.  Just not suited to the style of play that works for Liverpool, which relies on high-intensity, work-rate, pace and effort.

I'd also argue that Toure has made a strong statement that he deserves to start.  Maybe him and Lovren could be paired together - not sure that combination has been tried?

Chelsea fly back tomorrow and go up to Liverpool on Friday. If ever there was a time to go at them at full pace it's Saturday.
