I'm pretty fat and unfit, I started doing a little bit of jogging last summer but couldn't be bothered when the weather got colder in the winter. It would be cool to be motivated to do more exercise, I'm about 4 stone heavier than I was a few years ago and I guess I'm not the only poker player who has put some weight on so I was wondering if anyone was interested in doing a half marathon or something next year. I've googled a little bit and it looks like there are a few next March which really is plenty of time to get fit enough. If a group of us entered the run, booked rooms in the same hotel and had a thread to motivate each other to actually get out of the house on those wet cold winter evenings it could be fun and we'd have all the added benefits of being fitter and healthier etc etc. There are a few training schedules that reckon it takes 3 or 4 months to get prepared depending on how fit you are. I imagine with a bit of effort most of us could be ready in the 9 months before next March. You don't even have to run the whole way round there are sites which say the best way to do it is to walk for a minute or so every mile which seems pretty sensible to me. Anyone up for it? http://www.halhigdon.com/beginrunner/plan.htmhttp://www.halhigdon.com/halfmarathon/novice.htmhttp://www.runwindsor.com/prepare.htmhttp://www.bathhalfmarathon.co.uk/site.aspx?i=xb230

I read this while eating a Mars Bar. I'm in the exact same boat as you mate, having put on a hellava lot of wait during my poker years. Might be up for something like this, sounds like a good plan. You spoilt my enjoyment of the chocolate though.

I may be up for this, but would want to be prepared. I've always wanted to run a marathon.

This could be like weightwatchers for real men. Add a bit of sport into the equation, get us proper interested like. Maybe even have some decent side bets going on Sport alone probably won't get me in shape, I think I might need to add gambling into the mix too. We should do some proper competition shit, like group together folks who have similar height and weight this summer (ie now), and have them compete against each for the best times next March. Unless Dale wants to race, he can f**k right off, probably turning up on the day and kicking the Kenyan's ass if there's money on it.
