Tikay's pretending that I'm the only one old enough to remember Charlie Manson.
Lol, sadly not, I'm afraid I recall it very well.
I've just thought of another - the Terry Waite kidnapping.
And another - the American Hostage Crisis.

Madeline Mcann not on anyone's list?
I'm only 22 so not as much to choose from but i think 9/11, 7/7 and Maddie Mcann are the dead certs if i was to make a list.
The problem with the Madeline McCann thing was that I (like a lot of people i think) grew really tired of that story, which is shame because it was an awful thing to happen to the poor girl and her family. It wasn't even newsworthy after the first few weeks.
yeah but after the first three weeks it wasnt just the abduction they were reporting on but everything surrounding the case including the amount of press coverage it got and
how the Mcanns used the media to keep the story going, a self sustaining story
where the growth of the story became a story in itself.
Deffo, this.
The way the Media got manipulated on this was nothing short of a disgrace. Money buys front page headlines it seems.
That's not to say it was not a dreadful thing - it was.
But even now, the Red-Tops come up with some McCann nonsense every week - this week she was "sighted" in Australia. How does every McCann sighting deserve the Front Page of at least 3 Red-Tops? Money is the answer.
The McCann Parents were also very sharp & critical with police failings, which seems a little rich to my mind, all things considered.

He has trouble enough getting it quietly at the best of times without a proxy mouthpiece on here.
FTAO AndrewT.
He (Andrew's Bro) won it again tonight, Andrew. Proper player, him. Dresses proper, too.
Sigh - occasionally winning the odd poker tournament was the main thing I had going for me to be the apple of my mother's eye. Now I've been usurped in that.
I can see her now, introducing me to people as 'the one who used to be good at poker - I'm not sure what he's good at now'

Is a keen interest in something enough to make the list or must we have been alive during the event?

Bite me. Was thinking more along the lines of the Titanic.

If we allowed to the whole of the 20th century, there are quite a few that could be added.
Both World Wars (Including Hiroshima), Race to the South pole, Climbing of Everest, The Decline of the British Empire etc.....
What about the Cuban missile crisis or more generally the cold war, Tikay?

John Lennon was already on my list. Titanic and Kent State removed. Sigh.
