Do you not still play reasonably big cash games,500 is big imo lol.

Also are you a Cricket fan ? I'm venturing down your gaff to watch Eng v Pakistan mid August with some scoundrels off here.Last time I went was to Edgbaston to watch the Ashes, sure seen any cricket.,sigh.I'm not a big fan tbh but why not ? Something different ftw.

Well it's all relative I suppose. If I sit in a DC or Omaha Cash Game (Live), which I do when time or game availblity permits, yeah, I'll pull up £1k, & have 2 or 3 behind if need be, but when I lose, it messes with my head real bad. I should not play that level, I don't have the game, but I can't help myself, it's a weakness. If my Dad knew I was gambling £2 or £3k a pop, he'd have me over his knee. Given how hard I work to earn money, it makes no sense for a player of my modest (at best) ability to gamble so high, but I love it so much. I can empathise with those who go busto, & lose the lot. I can't empathise with those who don't have the fibre to dig themselves out of it by hard work, & instead wail on about bad luck & want my pity. Sod that.

Cricket? I'd not cross the street to watch a ODI, it's kid's bish-bash-bosh nonsense to me, but Test Cricket, yeah, my bucket list includes watching every single ball of any MCC 5 Test series. On the telly though, I can't be doing with all the alcohol-fuelled twats at Live cricket any more. And the TV cover it so wonderfully.

Yeah Test Cricket >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ODI,we are going to Day 3 I believe.Just wondered if you had stopped playing cash with saying you no longer play big buyin comps.Did you see they tried to make it so the Ashes had to be shown on terrestial tv but it went to court and has now been deferred until 2013 as the cricket board says they rely heavily on the Sky tv money. It would sound like a few clubs don't have the greatest business plan if they're going to go busto without the tv money.Obviously it isn't going to happen but imagine how huge the effect would be if Sky went bust tmoro

I thought the winner, although almost certainly a one-hit wonder on a hot streak, was a very worthy winner, & conducted himself quite beautifully throughout.

Not sure how you can put him in the one hit wonder category.  His swing and approach to the game is just too good not to expect to see him contending for many years to come.

I hope I'm wrong, & yes, he has a beautiful, almost classic, swing, & the perfect temperament. I'd love to see him become "big".

But now & then, The Open throws up some "odd" winners, who look the part, but have no previous, & no since.

When Paul Lawrie won, in those horrendous playing conditions, or the adorable Ben Curtis, even Todd Hamilton, we expected them to become big names. but they are Golf's Chris Moneymaker really - they never reproduced that peak of form or ability again, & although they enjoyed further modest & sporadic success, their results have been at best "modest" by the standards of an Open winner.

I really hope I'm wrong, but I just see him in that category. He initially got the best of the weather, seized his chance, & played better than everyone else, & deservedly won.

We shall see.

He actually got the worst of the weather on Thursday and his 67 was one of the very best from the afternoon starters.

Curtis and Hamilton both have rather "funky" swings and Lawrie got quite lucky, this guy lapped the field and has a superb swing not to mention his silky putting-stroke.

I don't think anyone should call this performance a fluke as it was so comprehensive and he was not overawed at all.

Before we finish on The Open, if two names confirmed themselves as players who would soon become "greats", it was, imo, McIllroy (no secret that one, but I thought his maturity & mettle was outstanding), & the Korean/Aussie, Jin Jeong. The latter, in particular, as they say of Derby prospects in the horse-racing world, could be anything. If Louis can produce better results than either of those two, I'd be truly astonished.

I don't question that at all, on the contrary, & I liked him enormously.

It's just a gut feel thing. But it's taken him a very long time to become an overnight success.

For the first time since returning from Vegas, I slept well last night. My 6am alarm call came & went without me, & I got to the office at 10.30am, whoops. Maria rang me last night & caught me at a bad time, & we chatted for over an hour, maybe 90 minutes. I need her, & especially Tom, & Thewy so much sometimes.

And then, later, the storm broke, & I'll need those sleep reserves to get through the next few days. My oh my, it's gonna get messy.

I'm off to Swansea in a mo. Dreading the M4/M5 thingie mid-afternoon on a Summer Friday, but I'll be non-stop on the phone, sorting stuff.

Meet up with the lads tonight, including Tighty & Flushy, in Swansea, then on Saturday, the SPT marathon, a 16 hour day at best, but fun.

Sunday, not quite sure yet. Am supposed to be in Brighton, at the National Finals of a big Pub League, but that may be too much even for my reserves of energy to manage, so I may have to swerve it. I'd need to drive from Swansea to Brighton early on Sunday morning. No point going unless I am in reasonable form & shape. And I need to collect my new glasses, which I ordered in Luton last week. I'm near blind without them, so that's pretty important. Can't wait to get them, in fact. I lost my prescription bins in Vegas, & it's been "difficult" since.

The M4 on a Friday afternoon awaits. And worse.

Agreed.  Some of the young talent coming through is outstanding and we are long overdue seeing some quality youngsters come into the game.  McIlroy to me is the pick of the bunch but it will be interesting to see how many golfers from Asia start to bud and bloom.

I believe the term for the "Crown Jewels" of sport is now "Free to Air TV" and not Terrestrial.  It is possible that the deferment is to allow Sky to get their "Free to Air" TV station(s) up and running and you will see parts of days play or 2 days of each Ashes test on free to air channels.  That way Sky keep the exclusivity, The ECB keep the Sky money and the Government get the Ashes tests on the Crown Jewels list - everyones a winner, or at least only loses a little.

Welcome back Mr K - think how many more sign ups you could get Free To Air?

I went to Specsavers for my new bins, & had to fill in a big form.

The tart then said "good news Mr Kendall, your eye-test is free".

"Why so?" I enquired.

"Because of your age".

Ageist, & hurtful.

I may be taking a wee break from Luton for a few months, so nice to finish with a decent result.

I feel the same about last night's result but one must keep trying isn't it?

Thoughts on Peter Alliss? A couple of his comments at the weekend had the betty forum boys going nuts.

He has now added moaning and groaning to his repertoire which used to be simply droning.

He was so bad at one point that his co-commentators all deserted and left him alone in the box.
