I tend to think Accountants are great examples of this - I've rarely met one with good people skills.

. The City Analysts rate him highly,

This isn't actually true.  The city has a very narrow definition of what it likes in it's business owners and Ashleys autocratic style doesn't suit them because he doesn't let the Chairman and CEO run the company (he runs it).  They generally don't kick up too much of a fuss whilst the company is delivering but when it had a couple of bad quarters in 2007 they were very quick to mobilise and try and make changes.  I think the problem with his management of the football club is that he tries to run it in the same way he runs sports direct in that any let up in performance results in changes being made but football doesn't really work like that because performance is subject to variance no matter how good you are and if you expect to be the best all of the time you are going to be sorely disappointed.

I should have phrased that better.

They don't like him, but they have to respect the numbers he's producing. Whether that amounts to "rating him" is a moot point!

They did, to be fair, make a bunch of money on currency (which is not "core"), but all KPI's seem to be heading nicely north. What I liked about the SD numbers was the decision not to pay a Dividend, despite the excellent results. Prudency rules, FTW. If they meet their Forecasts in years to come, Staff could get up to one year's salary as a bonus. So he may not have people skills, but he knows what makes them tick.....Wink

Meanwhile, my share-picking skills reign supreme. I've had Shares in BA since they were privatised (1980-something?), & year after year something comes along to bomb the share price. This year, outwith their control, the militant UNITE, Icelandic volcanic ash clouds, & now, again, bad weather. Lovely.

EVERYONE loves Mondy!

Thing is, he probably insults the world & his wife, but nobody understands a word, so we just nod sagely, "yes Mondy, of course".

I'd so love him to win the DTD Biggie. In fact, it'd be cool to get him on the Show, I think he's be an instant Wagner-stylee hit. We can sort sub-titles.

yep credit where it's due, he's a sound lad: not afraid to speak his mind, even when he's going against the grain, and seems to have a good head on his shoulders.  Got a lot of time for the dude I have.  Hope he ships big at DTD.

+1, or even +2.

He's a sort of Forum equivelant of pop records that used to be called slow-burners, or sleepers. He's never changed, & slowly slowly, more & more have come to like him, adore him even. He seems to have no edge to him - a rare quality indeed. Still speaks funny though.

He's qualified for the Newcastle SPT on January 8th, & I am 100% gonna do a spoof interview with him. Hopefully, nobody will understand a word, & so we'll have a translator to help. It'll be a You Tube biggie.

Evening James.  That's a fine Company you work for. Wink

Did you take part in the recent "Believe in Better" Staff thingie?

Mother, with/for whom I work, won herself a nice I-pad as an award in that on Friday, as the best-performing SB&G staffer.

Preferred the pre edit response. Can't remember what the thingie was tbh but I obv didn't take part anyway. Yeah good company although most of my department may disagree at the moment.

Had to work until 4 this afternoon as celeb clients wanted colonics before flying out tomorrow (some hope). They were not worried about the weather as they came in their 4x4. Obv they were unconcerned about our wellbeing...!

I am holed up in a hotel in Newport Pagnell, having spent 2 hours driving from work and not managing to get on the M1 (a right result as it turns out) I decided to abandon the car and check into the hotel I had been sitting outside of for the last 35 mins. This hotel is less than 3 mins from my starting point....Checked in and I now have a bath running, room service just delivered hot food,  drinking very rough red wine from a coffe mug, strictly come dancing on the tv, free internet connection and updates on Blonde, all for £39. Better than being at home!

Glad I couldn't get on the M1 - some poor souls have been on the M1 junc 14 to 15, that I normally travel on, for 5 hours so far and counting. It normally takes less than 10 mins......I'll review it tomorrow and hopefully get home in the daylight tomorrow.

So pleased I found this place, I was getting very scared that I was going to have to spend the night in the car. Scary.

Lol - glad I didn't stay in the car for hours just to get home. I was monitoring the webcams on the motorway and nothing cleared here before I went to sleep. This was definitely the best move. Very cosy here - don't actually want to leave. ;-)
