I could still keep myself occupied with matters close to my heart, APAT, GOSH, Raising The Stakes, Variety Club, etc, & travel, relax, see more of my special friends (whom I disgracefully neglect right now due to time-pressures), watch Test Cricket, get me a dog, da de da.

More on the bits I've highlighted please. (Time permitting of course)

The dog - as you know, that was Plan A.  Retire, get me a dog with a limp, & do all that cranky old man & his mangy dog who looks like his owner. Walk, sleep, read, watch the telly, vegetate, fade away. You will be getting the dog, & training it for me. When I get it, I won't be making a fuss of it. Much. I'm good with dogs.

Variety Club. It's a chariddee, I do a bit of stuff with them.

Unconnected with that, you might enjoy this webpage. I was looking for a Romany or Gypsy word, & came across it. The page, not the word.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romani_language

Near the foot of the page is a fair bit of interesting stuff.

In "King of the Gypsies" he refers, I think, to "juv". "juv was, I think, "field", as in "put some horses in the juv". The usage, iirc, was "juv some horses", as in put them in a field for a while. He was discussing a guy who traded hundreds of horses, but I forget his name now. I'll give you the book later this week, you'll love it.

The "tea-link" by Andrew was a corker, but let's nail this once & for all. There will be no argument about this.

A cup of hot water with a tea-bag slung in it is not a cup of tea. You will be served it that way in most of the USA, Mainland Europe, & Africa, & even the UK now. Do what I do - refuse to accept it, or pay for it. That's not tea, that's a cup of hot water.

Tea-Making.

Water must be boiling, absolutely "on the boil" bubbling.

Tea-Pot to kettle.

Tea Pot must be china.

Tea Pot must be thoroughly warmed.

Tea goes in just before the boiling water.

Leaf tea must be used.

Use a linen tea-strainer.

Use a bone china cup or mug.

Put the milk in the cup first.

Allow the tea to brew for 3 minutes.

Pour lovingly via tea-strainer.

Add sugar or sweetener as preferred.

Stir with a proper stirring implement. A silver spoon is desirable.

That is how HM The Queen makes it, & that's the only way.

End of debate.

Words (Or dialect) are slightly different depending on which part of the country, or which family your from.

We would call a field a "puv"

My granddad used to sing

Mandi went to puv the grai
Down by the pani side
Up jelled a muskra to lell mandi’s grais
Mandi made a put at him
Delled him on the point of the chin
And dordi, dordi, dordi, and can’t mandi kor!

Yes, that's it, "puv", that is what I said.

I also know "muskra" is "policeman".

Because it is a spoken, not written language, some of the words went missing over time.

Nowadays most  Gypsies speak a version of Romani called "Poggadi Jib" Which means "Broken Tongue"

The best speakers can still speak almost entirely in Romani though.

Whatever you do, don't drop down to 11st 6 again, you looked ill.

Very much ^This^

+ lots

- a bit

I lost 7 stone 18 months ago (from 20½st down to 13½st) and was dismayed by the number of people who said I looked ill. I had never been fitter, healthier or felt as good. My blood pressure went from the point of needing medication to absolutely perfect.

I think it takes other people a while to see you differently. Until the new you becomes the norm, you look different and 'ill'. That's all.

Spot-on Sir.

So many people - friends, & well-meaning - said the same thing, "stop now, you look ill". And yet I'd NEVER felt better.

Now, I've lumped a few stone back on, & feel shite, everyone says "you look much better now you've put some weight back on". It's like a new hairdo, I think, just takes some getting used to.

I'm not fussed if I'm fat or thin, I just want to "feel right", & I don't when I'm Mr Plumpy.
