SPT Luton

With TommyD

This is actually an action shot.  Tikay is 'Mid Bok.'

Mr K, great work from yourself, the G Casino guys and the SkyPoker Crew.  Really enjoyable day as always and was run exceptionally well.  Sorry to hear about the grimmer and the Sky Lad who let himself down badly.  I think you should defo do that WSOP holiday, you deserve that immensely.

By the way, my Dad enjoyed the day thoroughly and has referenced you calling him my brother only 27 times so far.  Oh and thanks for sitting Ian Frazier on my left in that Sit N Go Wink

In regards to Stan 'The Man' Collymore, really can't say I'm a fan of his media work, however he is miles better than Savage on Five Live.  I don't like how the media 'faces' for football are increasingly becoming an old boys club.  Just because you played the game doesn't necessarily mean you can talk about it with any great insight or eloquence, and vice versa of course.  The opinion of an Ex-Pro is always great but IMO should be tempered with an experienced commentator of the sport.  As a footballing talent Collymore is probably the second biggest waste of pure talent, Robin Friday being top of that list.

Thanks Tommy, good to see you both on Saturday - good fun, eh? - & give my best regards to your bro.

That 8-8 v A-K hand was a real beaut.

K-8-3-A-A.

Ouch, that's gotta pinch a bit!

An exceptional article in either the Daily Telegraph or Times today, about Stan Collymore.

We all hated him for the Ulrika stuff, but he paid his bill, & I like the fact that he seems to have tried to atone. Forgiveness should always be possible.

He's quite the thing at TalkSport now, & unless it's pure spin, he has his head in the right place now, too.

When you think back, he was quite a story. Southend & Barry Fry, Forest, Liverpool (BAD start there, when he got off on the wrong foot about playing out of position), England, & Villa, then, I think, a Spanish side for 5 minutes.

Two small facts missed from above...

1) He played for Stafford Rangers, where, FWIW, I watched him play and for all those who did watch him back in the day,we all saw his 'potential' then.

2) He was actually born in Stone, Staffordshire. A great little town in the heart of England which will also be the home town of a future WSOP champion*

*may or may not happen

Stone is also the home of Discharge and Charged GBH, what a town.

Explain, please, Glenn?

Stone Records was a small Punk Label started by Mike Stone, and these are a couple of their bands with members from around staffordshire ncluding Stone. Pretty much unlistenable to most Tony but I saw them loads of times at the 100 club and loved them - i was a pacifist/CND type in the late 70s and their lyrics (in Discharge's case -very focused on Anti War sentiments) seemed to fit the bill for me at the time

I'm an easy sell, Ralph, I go all gooey when I see rehab tales.

I forgive too, though I never forget.*

* Actually, given I lost TWO pairs of trousers over the weekend, + I THOUGHT I'd lost a pair of glasses last week, repleced them at a cost of plenty, then found them, & then found a pair I'd never knew I'd lost, strike that about "never forget".

Which reminds me, I must reply to Byron's thought-provoking post about that stuff that stops the ageing process. Allegedly.

Quite some article this, about a high-profile businesman I'd never heard of. Some very succinct views on "Big Bosses" pay, too.

It was in today's Telegraph.

C'mon Tony talkshite radio are a joke by most people's standards, hence the epithet.

They took on a couple of disgraced footie presenters after about a week.

As I said, Ralph, I'm a sucker for someone who has made a comeback, or who I think has. And yes, maybe it's spin. It touched a sort of nerve for me, though.

If it's bollox, well I think that's a shame, but hey-ho.

TalkSport may not be highly regarded by all, either, me included, but it's audience has risen dramatically, if the article is to be believed, & I think that can be verified elsewhere.

Have you read Vicky Coren's book yet?

I'm half-way through it and totally absorbed, I might finish it tonight.

Yes - what a great read it was, too. I doubt I've ever read a better-written book which focuses on poker. Her father was a superb writer, & so is Ms Coren, no ghosties needed there.

I have just finished Roy Brindley's tome, "Life's a gamble". It's a bit light, a skim-read, I read it in 2 days flat, but quite enjoyed parts of it.

Not one tenth as well written as Ms Coren's one - he also wrote it himself, no ghosties - but even so, he gets the story across very well. It's brutally honest, & he does what 90% of addicted poker players do - readily admits he has been, at times, a hopeless & out of control gambler.

Life is good now, with Mags, Sebastian, & Elise, & I'm delighted for him. He seems to invoke a lot of bile & hate from the younger players, presumably because he is old skool, & has outspoken views, but nobody can deny he has really worked hard to earn his money. He had a spell where he was out of control with alcohol - jeez, he was not pleasant to be around at the time - but he seems to have worked through that.

His other passion, of course, is Greyhounds, & I seem to recall he had a falling out with one time Gala Notts regular & fellow Sporting Life tipster/journo, Pete Meldrum.

How is Pete these days? I recall him being very ill at one time, but I think I bumped into him at DTD last year. Pete used to get "quite passionate".
