This Diary is DEFFO never gonna feature much poetry, but after I commented that I wished I could go round the block again, (in the Borges Post) a special friend sent me this. Please try & read it, & absorb it - I'm sure it applies to 90% of us. It 100% applies to me, I know that.

Slow Dance

Have you ever watched kids on a merry-go-round?
Or listened to the rain slapping on the ground?

Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight?
Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?

You better slow down.
Don't dance so fast.

Time is short.
The music won't last.

Do you run through each day
On the fly?

When you ask "How are you?"
Do you hear the reply?

When the day is done
Do you lie in your bed

With the next hundred chores
Running through your head?

You'd better slow down
Don't dance so fast.

Time is short.
The music won't last.

Ever told a someone,
We'll do it tomorrow?

And in your haste,
Not see their sorrow?

Ever lost touch,
Let a good friendship die

Cause you never had time
To call and say,'Hi'

You'd better slow down.
Don't dance so fast.

Time is short.
The music won't last..

When you run
so fast to get somewhere

You miss half the fun of getting
there.

When you worry and hurry
through your day,

It is like an unopened gift....
Thrown away.

Life is not a race.
Do take it slower

Hear the music

Before the song is over.

The author? Well it was an authoress, actually. 16 years old, & terminally ill.

How about that?

Great Poem

Love My Poetry

Very Evocative offering and certainly made me think

Thanks for posting that and lets have some more please Tony

Sadly, I never look for this sort of stuff, so fingers crossed that the gent who sent it to me sends me some more. In fact, he often sends me poetry, but mostly it's a bit deep for me, I will never understand poetry, I'm a cretin. Bit like drag artists, I can't quite see the point. I thought that piece was amazing.

I loved this part....

When you worry and hurry
through your day,

It is like an unopened gift....
Thrown away.

And I friend - very special friend - just PM'd me, & said "don't forget your old friends, time you rung me".

And it made me think of this.....

Ever lost touch,
Let a good friendship die

Cause you never had time
To call and say,'Hi'

OK, gotta go, lots to do today......

3rd place last night in the "Thews @ Ten" Tourney was one "luther101".

Also, there was an "Elderly Gent in "Can't Play"      .....       non-shocker - finishing OOTM".

There you go Tikay, I've corrected your OP.

If you do go to nice Nice, the road along the coast is called the/la 'Promenade des Anglais'      .....     originating from the Edwardian days when elderly English couples enjoyed the views of the Med as they pottered along said flagstones.

No doubt you were a leading light of the 'Bright Young Things' present - complete with stripey jacket (recently spotted on Sky), and resplendent in a straw boater.

Landing at Nice airport is amazing, you descend over the sea straight onto the runway.

I think i can relate to that poem Tony. I feel it is looking on life from ...almost the other side .... people that have come close see a different out look on life i believe. So much I could say on this but no point as you can only truly understand it when you have been there and noone would want any person to come that close, does that make sense?

Oooooooh - the Venetian Deepstack schedule is out. Looks excellent, just the right size buy-ins, & some nice 3pm non NLH stuff too. The Noon affairs seem to be re-entries, too, which is OK.

So when are you thinking of going?

Just had a quick peek at flights from 31st Oct. for ten days and they seem very expensive currently, c£700.

Ralph, that's probably because of the Auto convention that starts on Nov 1 - 120,000 attendees.

That might affect hotel prices/availability but I'm not sure why it would make flights more expensive.

There's bound to be a sale in a few weeks I reckon.
Both Virgin and BA have just started a sale

Thewy, Paul Jackson, Mickey Wernick, Dave Colclough and Flushy for five years ago

and

Thewy, Paul Jackson, Mickey Wernick, Dave Colclough and one of them internet kids that plays on sky poker for now

Ooh, questions about "Top 5" players in GUKPT's 5 yeats back, & now. Hmm, that may be interesting. OK, I'll think about that whilst I am on the Motorway today.

Questions about top 5 nippers 5 years ago, lol, bless, you wanna get me in even worse doo-doo than I already am, Jim? Not sure it would be wise to answer that, & anyway, I think everyone knows who they were. If we asked 100 circuit regulars of that era the same question, I bet 90% of them would come up with the same 5 names, so it would not tell us anything we don't already know.

What WOULD be more interesting is the anti-nipping procedures I use these days, & what steps others do to avoid the serial nippers. I'll give my answer tomorrow, but I'd be curious what measures others use. Sadly, in my line of work, "eff off" is not exactly on message.

Meanwhile.....

We all know about the River Severn Tidal Bore (& doubtless you will be bored by such trivialities), but I saw something this week - not in real life, sadly - which blew me away.

So, this is the UK's most famous tidal bore, (should that be upper case "t" & "b" I wonder?) on the Severn....

When a known nipper walks towards you, open the conversation with "ahh, glad I bumped into you, bit short atm, could I borrow a one-er?"

Even the most hardened nipper is going to have trouble trying their luck after that.
