Thanks Sandy, I was hoping somebody would rescue me with some accuracy.
2015, bugger, seems a long time off. Every 5 years there, is it?
You missed one question - how many bunkers did Tiger hit into during those 4 extraordinary rounds in the Centenary Open?

Used to b 6 years but they wanted it there 2000 and it has been ever 5 years since.
As for woods i recall it being mentioned but not the number. To be mentioned it got to be under 2 and probably 0 i'd imagine.
You forgot to mention that there was no place for visitors to change until 1990 until Old Course Experience funded the Links Clubhouse in return for guaranteed tee times. I think the links trust deeply regret that.

Sandy is Probably right.
It was none
And just to add to the right/left handed debate Phil Mickelson is right handed but plays golf left handed

Ahh, we are joined by squawky, aka Hawk, we have a golf pro itt.
Hope all is well with you, Dave. Bet you have some golf tales to tell, and I guess St Andrews is familiar territory to you?
Did you know we have a golf betting thread on blonde, think you' enjoy that. Can't link to it at the mo ( on my I-pad) but it is in "Sports Betting and discussion" board.

Tiger deffo won the Open in 2006 without going in a bunker all week, he might have done it before that but he is deffo remembered for doing it that year as the course was fiddly, with lots of bunkers.
St Andrews....I know this is sacrosanct but some of the Open courses are now so weather dependent, they can play far too easy in good conditions. I don't think watching 8, 9 and 10 under being shot at Open venues is good and St Andrews is now a course that is only a test in bad weather.
The last few winning scores at St Andrews have been -16,-14,-19,-6,-18 and -12, some of those are far too low given the test an Open is supposed to provide.

All is good thank you
Personally I think that St Andrews is great for the aura that surrounds it and is a must to play for that reason, but it does disappoint as a golf course as does the Belfry
But if we were to talk about one of the toughest courses it would have to be Carnoustie now that is one tough beast on a calm day

But winning scores of +8 aren't what we want to see either.

ahhh Carnoustie, now that's more like it. I remember Justin Leonard saying he felt he had lost the Open twice the year that Paul Lawrie benefitted from Jean VD Velde's collapse. The bit he failed to realise is that he was never actually in front at any stage of the event!!
Davis Love 111 said the course got the winner it deserved, he was right too, Lawrie deserved to win. If one of the big name US players had come from 10 behind on the last day he would still be living off that now.

Well since the second world war there have only been 6 winning scores over par, Lawries +6 being the highest one. Two of those were in 1946 and 1947 too.

I quite agree
But i fear until they do something about the golf ball we could see opens at St Andrews reaching 25 under and better in the future

Dave, what do you mean, " do something about the ball"?
Are the balls the key to these "super scores"?
I thought it was more the clubs, and the sheer touch and skill of the chaps?

The skill levels have improved and it is always difficult to compare this era to that era and the clubs to a degree have improve by being easier to hit but in non technical terms you can only do so much with a lump of metal and a shaft.
Golf Balls have improved so much over the past 15 years you have 2,3,4, and now this year 5 piece golf balls available which perform for different club head speeds and abilities.
I cant imagine any of them scoring that well with the old Dunlop 65 that came in a wrapper.

I've got an old box of six Dunlop Maxflis with two of them still in the wrapper.
