Started snowing here 20 minutes, fine, heavy, beautiful snow, it has settled already. If it continues overnight, the roads will be a mare tomorrow, everyone will stay at home. Bad weekend in prospect for travelling, good weekend for online poker sites.

Win some, lose some.....

I think this should have been posted on the "Tits for Tikay" thread.

What are your thoughts on seeing these get pulled down? (other than, "Why have they got faces and arms?")

(video seems to stick unless you click 360p and make it 480p)

I think they are trying to give the impression at the end of the clip that 3 wind turbines = whatever is produced at the front end of 4 cooling towers.

If only that were true.

A sparkling set of results from Rank plc (owner of Grosvenor Casinos, Mecca Bingo, etc) yesterday, with Grosvenor Casinos in particular being the star of the show, with great numbers, all good.

See.....

 http://www.rank.com/articles/94/rns_2nd_interims_2011_final.pdf

"Interactive" - being Online gaming, including poker, is about 12.5% of the total, with Online Poker being an insignificant part of "Interactive", less than 2%. So a VERY small part of a small part of the whole.

The online poker numbers, even though so very small, were dire, too, with 6 month revenues down from £800,000 to £600,000, a decline of 25%. To get that in context, 6 month Group Revenues were nearly £300 milion, Online Poker £600,000.

For the 12 month numbers, overall revenue was almost £600 million, with Online Poker £1.3 million, down from £1.8 million previous year.

I would assume that Rank's Online Poker brands are Blue Square, & Grosvenor.com.

Hard to see them continuing to invest/waste valuable management resource on something so small, &apparently in terminal decline, & it must almost be below the required critical mass level now, it's survival resting upon its ability to migrate Clients across to the other interactive products.

How things have changed, Blue Square was quite a force in the UK Online Poker market back in the Tribeca days. Then i-poker came along, & the online world changed forever.

Very sad, in some ways, but it must be hellish difficult to be part of a network where all operators have to offer an identical product. It's quite a reflection on BBP's relative success, actually, as they seem to be going along nicely, with their recreational/community based offering. I hope Encore are going OK, too, they also seem to do "niche", & they have some incredible Thai based Online Pros.

If you bundled Ladbrokes Poker & Blue Square poker together, it'd still hardly be worthwhile for either partrner. Incredible to see how fast the Online landscape changes.

Rolls Royce, meanwhile, delivered yet another tremendous set of numbers yesterday. (They make power systems, not posh motor cars, that is a different company completely).

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-16960903

Some eye-popping numbers there - an order book of 62 billion ££'s, & over 5,000 aero-engines on order! Future growth will come from land-based energy related generators & turbines.

I'm very fond of that company, they are a real company, B & M, making real things, & they invest in people & training to a huge extent. Like any successful company, they have to trim the staff numbers from time to time, which must be painful, but that is why the company is so successful, it makes those difficult decisions.

Shares closed at £7.68, but a spooky oddity is that the share high & low yesterday was £7.67 & £7.77, which for a company which makes engines for the Boeing 767 & 777, is fascinating, I'm sure you will all agree.

A truly Great British Company.

I had a tour round the RR Derby factory quite a while ago (must be 15-20 years). The most impressive part of it was the automated warehouse. A vast space, must have been 60' tall, with all the picking done by robots, which then loaded automated carts to send them where they needed to go in the factory. Amazing to watch.

The materials technology that goes into creating turbine blades is incredible as well.

I see.

OK, here is the deal - you can be my Yoof Correspondent, but please, no tits & bums, leave that to Costa & Co, we don't want that sort of stuff here, unless it's proper classy like.

We could mix & match though - how about a sexy car, & a nubile young lady admiring it - sort of half-way house? (I do like the word "nubile").

Was that visit to their Victory Road, Sinfin, site?

I read this of RR turbine blade technology yesterday......if true, it's astonishing.

"RR have perfected a high-pressure turbine blade that operates at temperatures about half those of the Sun, while sitting in a disc that rotates @ 13,000 rpm, travelling 10 million miles before needing replacing".
