And I bet I can get it through. I'll start with this gem, one of my favourite Burns odes.
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
' Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch,
if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!
At the risk of being laughed at and this was a spoof -- isn't this from a certain Mr Kipling
Oh no - are you sure about that?
DAMMIT DUKE!..should have kept that quiet..I was looking nforward to TK quoting this as Burns on telly tonight

In TV-Land, everyone is divided into two generic camps - "Talent" & "Techies", either side of the camera, as it were.
And every Techie start life as a "Runner". Runners are sort of odd-job people, & have to wait hand finger & foot on the Talent, fetch them cups of tea, snacks, clear up after them, escort them to the toilets in breaks in the Show, keep the Green Room tidy, la de da de da.
The Runners, are by definition, just starting out in their working life, & are usually about 18 or 19. And the female runners are all blindingly pretty, but that's another story.
At Sky in Feltham, the Runners are huge fun, & I adore them all.
I shared a meal in the Staff Canteen with one of them yesterday. Beautifully spoken, perfectly mannered, lovely demeanour, & above all that, has an IQ of about 300. I think she Boarded at a Convent School. Her Mum works here too, & in front of Mum, she's Goody-Two-Shoes, but when Mum's not here, she's perfect St Trinians material, full of mischief, with a twinkle in her eye. It was rather like chatting to Jen Mason, it's such a challenge to avoid being completely outwitted & out-thunk by someone (less than?) half my age.
And suddenly, I realised what I'd missed out on by never having been a Parent. To share a Child's hopes & dreams & aspirations, as they start out on life's journey, must be awesome.
Somehow - no idea how - we got round to what she wants to do with her life.
"Ooh, be a Mother".
"How many?"
"Four"
"Make?"
"Boy, girl, boy, girl"
"Why not girl, boy, girl, boy?"
"Ooh, eveyone has to have an eldest Brother. And he has to be called Edward".
"What if you only have three?"
"Oh no, one can't have three, because it means there's a middle one. It must be horrible to be a middle child".
"What if you have five?"
"That's not too bad I suppose"
"Ahh, I've got you there. There'd be a middle one"
"No, there'd be three middle ones".......
