Happy New Year Mr Tikay sir.

Did I see you suggesting that you'd be at DTD this weekend? Look forward to seeing you there if so.

And you, David.

DTD this week? Quite possibly. I have to get a bunch of work stuff sorted first, but I need to go see Rob anyway, so yes, fingers crossed, I'll be there, albeit only until around Level 2 or so.

William Rees-Mogg, aka Lord Rees-Mogg,  passed away yesterday.

An extraordinary man with a "towering intellect" as so many of the Obits said.

He came to prominence in my little orbit after Jagger & Richards were sent to prison for the infamous drugs bust at Richard's home in Sussex, Redlands. It was, at the time a cause celebre.

Rees-Mogg famously ran a headline about it in The Times saying "who breaks a butterfly upon a wheel?" originally penned centuries earlier. It was a very anti-establishment thing for a stuff right-wing newspaper to write. Even now, it is hard to imagine that within 4 decades, Mick Jagger would be Knighted.

He turned The Times into one of only a handful quality daily newspapers in Great Britain. (The others are, imo of course, The Telegraph, Yorkshire Post, & The Scotsman, a sister title to The Times I believe).

He left The Times when Murdoch arrived, & was very rude indeed about Murdoch, but he later changed his mind & returned to work for Murdoch. The obits included very generous praise from Murdoch.

One obit described him as "the closest a journalist can get to being a gentleman".

He lived most splendidly in Somerset for most of his life, at a thoroughly splendid pile called Roan Easton Hall. (Now an Hotel).

I've just realised something.

You have nearly 60,000 posts and I have probably read well over half of them.

And I have no idea which way you lean politically.

If forced to have a bet, I know which side I'd go for.

But I wouldn't be particularly confident.

That's pretty impressive fence sitting by you..

was this your way of answering Keiths post Tikay?

Ha!

No, not at all, though I can see where you are coming from.

I'm glad you reminded me though, I had plum forgotten, which was rather rude of me.

I think the memory does that trick though - it helps us "mask" things we don't really want to do or say my making us forget them.

My political leanings are no big deal, but I try to steer clear of discussing politics, religion & that sort of stuff because it causes pointless arguments which nobody can win. And I increasingly dislike pointless arguments. Life's too short & all that.

I shall find Keith's question & reply today.

Happy New Year to you, & thank you for all your help, support, & words of advice in 2012.

I'm not sure if you are currently in the UK, or over in Jamaica (?), but wherever you are, stay safe.

I had no idea he was ill. What a terrible shame.

A great white shark is caught by a fisherman in New Zealand. Before he can bring it up to the boat, the shark is eaten by a bigger great white.

A similar thing happened to me in miniature when I was fishing in the Florida Keys.

I had a red snapper on the line and as I was reeling it in a school of barracuda came along and one of then snaffled my fish, well they left me the head which was all that there was on the hook. I wondered afterwards if I should have let more line out and let the barracuda swallow the head and hook or whether that would have cost me the rod too.

RIP CMJ

He'll be debating the finer points of the last few year's of cricket with Johnners, 'Boyle' and Arlott by now. TMS was so much better in the 70s and 80s than it is now.

What is the timescale of IP opening up, & what form will it take? I'm assuming a skin (but of whom?) with an attached training & "social" site, perhaps a Forum, too.

PS - Happy New Year. Pleased to hear you plan to splash less cash around!

PPS - Whoops, better send that PM reply. See you soon, hopefully.

I can't say much, what i can tell you though is that it will not be a skin. New software is in development, chunks are being thrown at this thing.
