^^^

Who - Timeform, or the official handicapper?

They can't retrospectively start messing with historical ratings!

Like re-writing history that.

I think Frankel is the best (I've never seen anything as impressive as that 2000gns) and there were always mutterings about Dancing Brave being rated a bit high.

I think Frankel is deffo the best horse but to downgrade horses 30 years after they last ran is a strange thing to do. If they are doing it for flat horses then it would be interesting to know if they are planning to do the same for the jumpers too.

Silly question of the week: can't they just make Frankel 141 or whatever to mean he's the best?

Downgrading DB is even more counterintuitive than leaving the status quo where the majority consider Frankel the greatest.

I did wonder why they couldn't just give Frankel a figure that was above DB by x pounds to make him the highest rated horse.

You look at a horse like Canford Cliffs and how well it has done against fields that didn't have Frankel in and it's easy IMO to justify an extra few pounds for the sake of an equitable result.

I think they probably have more information and tools available to them these days to allow an accurate assessment, so perhaps they would consider that Frankel's rating is accurate in relation to the horses in its generation.  They could have applied modern techniques to what they knew about the other horses performances and justified the downgrading.  Obv I'm just speculating but it doesn't seem that far fetched to me.

I was shown this at work today, hadn't seen it before and thought it was a novel use of Google Streetview.

Should have gone back to Sea Bird II then Dancing Brave would never have been number 1.

FWIW Sea Bird II was number 1 on Timeform until Frankel

Just love the way he won the Derby

Cheers Doobs that was great to watch. They mentioned in there that Timeform rated Sea Bird at 145, is that still the case and if so do you know what figure they rate Frankel now?
