Glitter Gulch is a generic term for the area of downtown Las Vegas around Fremont Street where the lights glitter. It has been named that for many years, long before the Fremont Street Experience (the light show).

The Girls of Glitter Gulch is a strip club in the centre of Glitter Gulch.

During my 1st main event (2001) they had a "lunch break" at 3.40pm. We had started play at 1.40pm despite the schedule stating a noon start. The lunch break was to last 40 minutes. One man on our table returned 2 hours late from the break. When asked where he'd been he said he popped into Girls of Glitter Gulch. He then asked "What else are you supposed to do? I mean who eats lunch at 3.40pm?"

He had ordered his 1st double brandy at 1.45pm.

I saw him the other day. He goes around on one of those electric carts, basically because he is fat and lazy, smokes, eats and drinks too much.

Brilliant. Thank you for the lingo lesson. I still can't get my head around the word gulch; it's an absolutely rotten-sounding word.

An epicurean in Vegas? Who woulda thunk it?

SteveF was 16th in the Wynn event, too.

Is that your mate, the chap who played SPT London?

If so, hope you had a piece of his action!

Yes and sadly not. He was right up there in chips for a good portion of the comp. Ran pretty excrutiatingly yesterday afternoon and had to settle in for a grind. Did very well.

Am possibly at a loose end today, as am off to see Fatboy Slim tonight, so an afternoon poker comp is out of the question (don't even say it!) The others are yet to awaken AFAIK so I'll play it by ear, but might do a Rio jaunt. Will PM you, pleno, if I'm going. Plenty of time to meet up, as I'm here all next week, too.

Today's Vegas Blog is up.

Oddly, it actually contains some poker stories.

Runner Runner Rio is the best. If true......

Investors Update.

Yesterday was the Caesars PLO6 Max.

Surprisingly, considering we have to be so active in 6 Max, I absolutely love it, especially that, for once, we have plenty of physical space at the table, instead of sitting all scrunched up.

We finished around 21st of 119, with 12 paid, so no returns I'm sorry to say.

The Tourney was jaw-dropping, & very educational. I am "old school Omaha", where we wait for big pairs with back-up & improvers, or nice run-downs, so I sat open-mouthed in astonishment for the first few orbits, whilst the lads were getting it all-in for stacks with the most amazing bags of spanners you ever saw.

Eventually, I decided, I had no choice but to join them, & it was very educstional & enjoyable, splashing about with mixed hodings, bluffing more than I have ever bluffed in my entire life.

Did pretty well too, really, at one time I had more than double average, but then I lost a whopper, & suddenly, I was grinding a low stack again, at exactly the time I became card & situation dead. I eventually found a spot, & got it in good, but in Omaha, you are rarely much ahead, & I failed to hold. Win that Pot, & I cash, simple as that. But I lost it......

I had a bit of a do with a rather stern & serious chap, he was French (which has sod all to do with anything really, but happens to be the case), he was about 55 years old, but wearing the full kiddy gear, hoodie, shades, determined never, under any circumstances ever ever ever to smile.

He had lost a huge Pot in a hand which, it seemed to me, was a perfectly normal, bog-standard, Omaha flip. It was never a bad beat in a month of Sundays, but you'd have thought someone had groped his mother they way he bellyached.

He had flopped middle set on this board.....

He had nut clubs, too, so was re-drawing to the nut flush.

Villan - not me, it was an inoffensive guy from Detroit, had a set of nines, 4-7 for the straight draw, & bad clubs. Neither player was ever folding on that flop, & it all went in. The nines held, & Mr Misery Guts then went off on a right moany-woan about his bad beat.

What bad beat, lol?  It was a near flip, & just standard stuff in a $230 jobbie, hardly worth getting in a lather about.

Then I tangle with him. The Pot had been min-raised by an aggro kid, really good player imo, purely to pot build, & 3 of us came along, I had Q-Q-J-10- double suited, & the flop came Q-J-6 with two of my suits. Top set, flush re-draw, that'll do, & I pot it.

Mr Up His Arse repots & we get the lot in.

Showdown time.

He does that bizarre thing then, & does not want to table his hand. "Do you have a set?" he asks.

My hand is open already, "of course" I say.

"Then I am dead" he says, & eventually tables naked K-K. Which he had felt unble to re-raise with pre.

He starts chuntering again as he gets up to leave the table, & fails to notice that the K rivered.......suddenly, we get the full table bang, JUSTICE he shouts, lol.

"Justice" I ask?

Yeah, that chap who outdrew me with his set of nines got lucky, so I deserved to win.

Yes, yes, you did mate.

God bless these folks who take things a little too seriously.....

Must say, it was quite an eye-opener to play "new school" Omaha, but I eventually found the pace & managed OK.

There was a Super Sat at The Rio last night for today's $5,000 WSOP PLO, & I considered giving it a spin, but I eventually decided I would be the value, & dead money, if they play that fast & fearless, so I swerved it.

Think I learned a goodly bit though. Was really pleased with how I eventully coped with the aggro lads, & we all (Mr Up His Own Arse excepted) had a good time with tons of fun banter.

By chance, it was me who busted the best, & most aggro lad, just a standard situation, & my hand got there. He came to see me later, & said (words to the effect) "for an old guy, you play pretty good Omaha, hope you get a few wins", which I thought was rather gracious of him.

Anyway, the cliffs are....

No returns yesterday.

Nothing on the Investors Schedule today.

I am going to play the $230 LIMIT PLO8 @ Golden Nugget. I omitted this from the Investors Schedule, because I really struggle - BADLY - with Limit, but I'm determined to try & learn it. Loads of people play it, so it can't be as bad as some say.

It would be wrong to have it on the Investors Schedule though, as I really do struggle with it.

So, for transparency, it is NOT on the Schedule.

If any of my existing investors wants to set fire to their money & have their existing % in this, let me know before, say, 6pm today. Play starts at Noon, but there is no way anyone can know how I am getting on. If I bust before you invest, the investment will be voided.

I do NOT advise you investing, but it would be pretty uncomfortable if I cashed or won (lol) the one Tourney which is not on the Investors schedule, hence the offer is there.

So, by default, unless anyone requests otherwise, you do NOT have a % in today's Tourney.

OK, I'd best go & try for the 87th time to work out how to bet in Limit.......google must know the answer.
