Would the old  three clubs utg count as an opportunity ?

Gl Sir.

Ha!

Not UTG, no, but I've resolved to play, depending on table villains, & position, action in front of me, a particular range of hands paying heed, mostly, to position.

It includes most suited connectors from 5-6 up, ALL pairs, & the obvious paint-paint stuff. Just ABC poker, basic stuff. In NLH, I only know ABC. Hit a few sets, off we go.

I've also resolved NOT to limp in, though I will peel in in various situations.

I have a dreadful temptation to dust off the occasional 3 bet if I think villain is a bit weak, too. Not sure the aspirations reach as far as 4 betting though.....

I'm sure you could get  a few cold 5's through Smiley

Guess what I mean by the post is play your game, try not to think "I don't want to do stakers money in this spot"
We've bought in you because we believe.

Play your game and have fun.

Rive them a new rear Tony, slash them a new sphincter.

Cleave them a new crack.

I'm in for 5% of whatever* you decide to play.

*excludes $111,111, $50,000 or $25,000 events!

Likewise "IN".

Was in for the $3k first.  Wink

I'm sure once MereNovice has done his thing everything will be in order.

We can't expect you to keep track of everything and win. Smiley

Yes, CONFIRMED, sorry if I am making this confusing.

EVERYONE who was in the original package is in for ALL the additionals, including the $3k WSOP PLO8.

Most folks, including you, paid for the original package, but not the "additionals" so it will just need adjusting on the "returns due" thing. It will be x% of the profit only of the additionals.

I just read your additional reply to Karabiner above, didn't see that when I posted, makes sense now.

This is a good time to ask a question I'd been wondering about for a while.

Do you, or poker players in general, enjoy taking backers (stakers?)?

I understand it from a professional poker players point of view but as a recreational player do you find it adds unnecessary stress to the game?

Don't get me wrong I'm immensely glad you do, I've had a great time following your antics for the last 2 years.

Brilliant question.

We are all different. Some thrive on it, some wilt. I truly don't know how folks cope when they are staked & it all goes tits up. There are some in 5 & 6 figures of make-up, & it does not seem to bother them a jot. (Not saying that is wrong, far from it). But if that were me, I think I'd have to shoot myself. We are all different, as to money, especially other peoples money. Mostly, I think, a generation thing, as to money management. The older generation are more inhibited, the younger, less so. Not a dig, & not necessarily bad, just how it is, or seems.

Me being staked? It un-nerves me a bit, I do worry that it'll all go wrong, & I'll feel silly. Truth is, I think it has probably helped me. I was actually chuffed to bits that folks wanted a bit, so that boosted my confidence.

If you've been sat at a PLO8 Table for 14 hours, are low-stacked, & getting no material, & the chat is a bit edgy, or flat, there IS a temptation to say "oh sod it, I'll just punt it off", but in those moments, I always thought of the stakers. As a stakee, it is a matter of pride to return a profit, so you dig in that bit more, or I do.

I would have played my little PLO8 schedule with or without staking, as I had saved the dollars I won last year, $6,000, which I took with me. Sharing that fun with others made it 100 times more fun, but if we had lost, the pain would have been horrible.

As to the Main Event, no way on God's earth, ever, could I see myself paying that. $10,000! I still remember the awe & amazement I felt when I played my first £100 Tourney, at Gala Notts. I vividly remember thinking "what would my Dad think, £100!"

There are some other side issues which have complicated matters, too, (next door-related) more of which later.

Before I read the enboldened part I remembered something I said to Leo and what he said in reply.

Leo remembers the Vegas adventure from last year as I'd tell him what you were playing and how you got on, eventually walking away with a tidy little profit.

So early on in June when I said I was doing the same this year he just looked me in the eye and said, "Dad, you're doing the right thing."

Made me laugh.

The kid wasn't wrong.

You like queues?

Good. Come to the WSOP then.

These photos were 20 minutes ago.

There are two seperate queues.

Queue 1 - get a players card. you cannot play ANY WSOP Event until you have a players card.

Queue 2 - Register & pay for the Tournament.

I estimate it'll take 4 hours to get through those 2 queues today.

Tomorrow, it will be MUCH worse. And Day 1c will be total carnage. It is, every single year.

Which reminds me - Mr Dave "Dubai" Shallow is due to play the $10,000 Omaha, which starts at 5pm this evening.

I really can't see him standing in queues like that.......

And everyone has 10k in their sky, surprised there isn't much mugging etc going on .

I paid in with cash this morning, & the girl counted it THREE times.

It was all $100 bills.

22, 23, 24, 25......

Three times.

Then she shouts "VERIFY", & a Senior Bloke comes across to ensure it really is $10,000. (Fair enough, otherwise funny business very likely).

So he says to the girl - "right, count it again, in front of me".

22, 23, 24, 25......

And she did not "flick count", she seperated every single note.

22, 23, 24, 25.....

Neil C told me he attempted to pay into some events yesterday with Rio "chips", & they got all arsey with him, "where did you get these from, can you prove it?" sorta thing. Neil must have played 200 WSOP Events, & cashed for 7 figures, including his win second.

I reckon I was at that desk for 20 minutes this morning.

Bizarrely........the whole process of me paying in, from cradle to grave so to speak, was filmed. Watch this space if you are really bored.

It seems like you're raising a shrewd young man.

Don't worry, everything with regard to staking will be in order before I sign it off. Smiley

At which point I should mention that our Auditor, who is a prickly, feisty, obdurate  sort (typical of an accountant or actuary I'd say), has sent me a list of queries as to the Final Account.

Not many queries, they were easily contained within 4 x A4 pages of size 6 font.

I'll need to check some records & reply to him before he will sign anything off. Blame him, he's an awkward sod, he wants things right ffs.

It's hard to understand something being so poorly organised that it takes that long for each person to proceed and that there are so few cashiers taking the money.

I know you can say - and I certainly would - a lot of the people in that a queue would have known delays were to be expected and are utter mugs for standing there for 2 hours before the biggest comp of their year/lives, rather than registering earlier.

Equally, though, smooth, unnoticed logistics are something that makes an event special.

Maybe, just maybe, I'm weird.

It is too easy to always blame the organisers, as poker players tend to, the players have to accept some responsiility, too.

Having said that, I agree with you.

This is 2013, computers rule, & can do amazing things. All those people queueing, with wads of cash & slips of paper, is so 1980.
