Enjoying the write ups etc, will have to search sportinglife.com to see your latest missives.
Watched the Sky poker thingy on SS3 on Thursday with Anna Fowler, Jen Mason and Jamie Sykes, was very interesting .
One thing I thought from it, they analysed cash hands and obviously by and large they were big pots/coolers etc. Do Sky poker players ever react badly to these and claim its rigged etc? I'm guessing random hands where a big hand gets it done on the flop or turn wouldn't be as interesting?

I would guess they react worse on a Sky than anywhere else. I guess this is probably a lot to do with the higher proportion of recs. Recs/new players tend to take beats worse than those that have seen it all, though there are always exceptions (hello xQuantum1 off Stars!).
I final tabled the main the other day and watched much of the repeat. They didn't even show what I thought was the most interesting hand. I guess the all ins are easier to understand and are more exciting for your average viewer. I guess it isn't really aimed at people like me, so what I find interesting others may find dull.
No idea where you'd articles are on the sporting life site, Tony. Could you post a link here?

I think people enjoy stuff then just move on to the next thread without comment, which is a shame because interaction is the windlass to the sluice gates. A few choice words can turn a trickle into a torrent.
Having said that, has Ralph dried up?

Thanks Simon. Jen is VERY good on TV, imo.
"Standard" hands are not very interesting TV at all, no.
Equally, & in my personal view (gotta be careful what I say....), the "car crash hands" we see on Top of the Pots are wholly predictable. When we see 2 players with £5,000 each behind, & it's 7-2 v A-A, you just know how it is going to end.
But it's not easy filling 15 hours per week with original poker stuff.
Do regulars think it''s rigged when they see that stuff? Of course, there are always a few who do, but the vast majority of people are bright enough to think it through & see it cannot ever make sense.
I play Online most nights, & there are a handful of regulars who will always throw the "he works for Sky, typical" stuff in. I never reply, you can't reason with that sort of thought train.
A very well-respected & intelligent poker player sent me a PM recently. In it, he tried to prove the case of the "cashout curse". I mean, he really subscribed to it. Not on Sky Poker though, this was on Pokerstars. No disrespect to my friend, he was wholly sincere, & he is not a nutjob, but really?
Poker does the weirdest things to our minds.

Amen to both comments.

I'm surprised they never show that hand, I even sent it up to them.
But generally, when they review a Final Table, they just show the bustout hands, due to time constraints. Weird really, 5 hours, & yet we are always "rush rush, move on". That's because the 5 hours are later packaged into 1 hour bundles to be repeated at different times.
Next Tuesday, we have an Open Golf Betting Preview for 2 hours. I can guarantee now we will not have enough time to do justice to every Market we want to feature. Towards the end it will come down the earpiece "move on, hurry, next item, quick quick" sorta thing. Not the Producers fault, not at all, but just how it works. Give us 2 hours, we'll fill 3, give us 3, we'll fill 4.
Listen to any current affairs wireless or TV show, & they are always "well we have to leave it there". Then some Studio Johnny DJ will waffle on about what he had for breakfast.
I'll try & find those SportingLife pieces, but really, they are not designed to entertain experienced poker players, they are just hooks to hang keywords on for acquisition purposes via "clicks". Acquisition is King, Clicks are the door-opener.

The cash out curse is a misnomer, but the reality that people go bust following a cash out is fact surely?
I'm sure I read a piece on this some years ago that better analysts than I could explain, but essentially the cash out reduces the accounts ability to cope with variance.
Btw I love your blog pieces, often laugh aloud at them, but commenting here feels inappropriate and I'm not a Sky member.

It's WHY it happens though.
Players think someone in the Office presses a button, which then instructs the software to deal bad beats to one specific player. I mean, that'd be quite a neat trick as the software has no idea how others in the hand will play it.
The Software next door is much improved of late, but still needs plenty of stuff done. Do they really think that with IT resource for high priority stuff which makes good money - developing software & Apps for Mobile Tablet, for example, which yields immediate, sustainable, long-term returns, is compromised in order to devote time to developing software to bust those who cash out? It's just about the greatest nonsense ever & stands no scrutiny whatsoever. But go read the Poker Scout Room Reviews, now that is some scary stuff on there. Imagine having some of those people as next door neighbours.

Just to echo what Simon said. I enjoy reading the diaries, there's some stuff that I'm not interested in, but still read, but then can't really find anything to post about birds or cementrete.
Think Facebook has made us lazy too, where, if we see something we can just hit a like button and move on to the next
Post. I wonder if Facebook removed the like button, how many people would bother to post something in response? I'd say less than half, for sure.

I've got a privet that bloomed a while ago. Today it's covered in bees and butterflies.
I wonder if it's because the pollen has just become ready for distribution? (Well I guess that's kind of obvious) but I wonder what changed between yesterday and today?
Did the pollen suddenly become more palatable, or was it 'released by the plant? Was nectar offered as an incentive?

Lol. I have no idea how I managed to post on your diary instead of mine.
I imagine this is always the first thread you open, perfectly understandably.
In all seriousness, you seem to have gotten your second wind where writing is concerned. Not that there was ever anything wrong with it, it's always been excellent, but you seem to have increased both in quality and quantity just lately.
Do you agree? If yes then why so?
Pleno, for example, does not generally take much care on blonde, not "technically" with his Content, but his Poker Strategy stuff is immaculate. Not a dig at Plenners, he'll know what I mean.
Credit where it's due. Pleno gave someone a one line piece of advice on PHA, and I incorporated it into my game. Now I know these things are hard to quantify, but I estimate that it has improved my game / results by between 10 and 20%

I was referring to his grammar, to his style of writing, as opposed to the Content. On Forums, it does not seem to matter, but when it does matter, (in his case on Poker Strategy) he, & many others, do it very well. Am just using him as a good example, I think we are all guilty of it, or most of us.

More like it.
Frau Merkel is a football fan, rather than just a political gesturer. I like seeing people in her position showing genuine emotions.
