Just seen your 'next door' news. Bet you've been busy.

I've had many great times on the show in the past......my god, eight years!

The plan going forward with more preplanned content looks like a viable one to me, especially if a lot of that is on Sky Sports, Challenge and other much easier to find channels than one being very near to, ahem, those phone lady channels.

You don't know him from Soccer AM, so you know him from ringing up open minded lady channels and posting the video on the internet?

How very 2015!

Yes, I thought that was quite clear from my last reply.

Thanks very much Barry.

I'll reply properly in the next day or two, but yes, been a bit busy, don't recall ever having so much on my plate, to be honest, Next Door, blonde, personal, all sorts.

I was tasked with replying on the Forum Next Door to the inevitable barrage of questions & negative feedback, I felt a bit like a turkey at Christmas actually. Ch 861 has been very much part of my life for well over 8 years now, so spending 10 hours straight without a break fielding the questions & taking a strict Company line was not awfully comfortable.

I've been given, at short notice, the very last Show tonight, too, so not sure whether to laugh or cry really.

And, by a freak of scheduling - I was booked for it over a month ago, before the changed dates were known - I am booked to do the very first "Sky Poker TV" show next Tuesday. Don't know if I'm coming or going, it's all funerals & weddings.

Everything is still unfolding, so give me a day or so & I'll reply properly.

Astonishing, thank you.

War must be such a weird thing, when we openly celebrate killing innocent people.

Just in case he vanishes into the ether for another few decades:
Let's hear what you were going to tell us about Terry Downes via Dave Charnley.

I disappeared for a few weeks Ralph, sorry.

It was something & nothing really, but Terry Downes was a bit of a hero to me in my adolescent years, for the strangest reason - I once saw him in real life.

Odd really, but we "connect" with people when we meet them, especially celebs or sporting stars. Well I do, anyway.

He was amongst the first to open Betting Shops after they were legalised (late fifties/early sixties?) & he had one in Horn Lane, Acton, right opposite Acton Main Line Station, think he had 7 or 8.

Word was, he was just a "front", & they were really owned & run by some shady sorts. No idea if that is true.

Her eventually sold the chain to Wm Hill, & made a pretty penny I believe.

I may be wrong, but I have it in my mind he was very popular with the public.

Here's an interview I found about him, dated 2011, (he's still alive & well to this day), I think you might just enjoy this.

Quite amazing, from this photo, how little he has changed.

Seems like he enjoyed his money whilst he had it, too, this, presumably, was from the sale of his Betting Shops.

Brings back so many memories of a certain time of my life, all this.

Great article that Tony most enjoyable.

I had completely forgotten about his "perishing hooter" until my memory was jogged but he was certainly a very good and popular fighter. I  remember those betting shops which he allegedly fronted for some serious villains, but that sort of thing was commonplace in the 1960's when gambling first became legal.

Do you recall The Colony Club fronted by Gearge Raft for Meyer Lansky, and Charlie Chester's casino in Soho?

Not forgotten this, Ralph, I've got a nice George Raft story, but no time tonight.

I'll catch up with the other replies soonest, too, including AnimalllllllllllllllllPoker, Conky, & everyone else.

861 is finishing but Sky Poker TV is about to start?

What will be the differences?
