Before I get up to date with those replies, I've had a bit more staking interest overnight, so I'd better do that before I forget.

Sue & Dave Norsden have requested 1%, so I'll happily add them to the list.

Who?

They play Next Door as "kidgirlgy" & "kidgrimsby" respectively.

Bit of a fairytale story really, in 2010 Sue qualified for the WSOP main Next Door for about £3 I think, & won her way through all the Sky Poker qualifiers, made the final, & won it. As an out & out recreational, to win a £10,000 package was a bit special.

So Sue & Dave came out to Vegas, where I was sort of "hosting" the qualifiers, & this was what happened.....

http://pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/player.php?a=r&n=169170

It's her only THM entry, what a great story.

They splashed a bit of cash in Vegas - Sue got a beautiful new ring - then paid off their mortgage I believe.

Love stories like that.

We remain very much in touch, we e-Mail back & forth, & they'll be in Vegas again this year.

I never knew until yesterday they were readers of this Diary, so that was a nice surprise, too.

1% booked, & I'll see you two  on the other side, all being well.

Sue is at the far end of this table, proudly wearing her Sky Poker patch.

Here's Sue at the Dinner Break on Day 2.

Just so I can keep track, this is my current Vegas wish list. It's a wish list, nothing more, this is way outside my means, but I need the list so I can decide what I can & can't play, something to work from, & also so I can try & plan the dates I'd like to be there. Some events clash, especially if making Day Two, so that knocks a few off.

The WSOP $1,500 PLO8 & Venetian $600 Big O are on the same date, so that knocks a few bob off the theoretical total.

Venetian, Sunday 30th June, $600 PLO

GN, Wednesday 3rd June, 11am, $240 PLO

GN, Monday 8th June, 11am, $240 PLO8

GN, Wednesday 10th June, $560 PLO

WSOP Thursday 11th June, $1,000 PLO

Venetian, Friday 12th June, $600 PLO8

WSOP Sunday 14th June - $3,000 PLO8

Venetian, Monday June 15th, $600 PLO

WSOP Tuesday 16th June - $1,500 PLO

Venetian, Friday/Saturday June 19th/20th, $1,100 PLO8

(WSOP Monday 22nd June $3,000 PLO 6-Max)

WSOP Tuesday 23rd June $1,500 PLO8

Venetian Tuesday June 23rd, $600 Big O

GN, Tuesday 23rd June, 11am, $350 PLO8

Venetian, Tuesday/Wednesday June 30th/July 1st, $1,100 PLO

Must be the fat end of $15,000 there, though some are easy to cull, the WSOP $3,000 6-Max for example, which must be the greatest comp ever, but them boys might be a bit too hot.

Still, if I binked big early in the shedule, boomio, might just have a spin. If.

I'm in for 1%!

I think your game is far more well suited so 9-max rather than 6max but if you do play the $3k PLO we can swap 1% too.

I think I might even play the $25k PLO this year. Eek that's exciting

Thanls Conky Conk Conk, happily BOOKED.

I very much doubt I'll play that $3k 6 Max PLO, but a kid's gotta dream, right?

I also received a request for 5% from a long-term blonde staker, stakes me every year, & a special friend, but he wishes to get it quietly & remain anon.

He'll go on the list as "MMD".

Careful, arbboy. He'll add on a few lattes, a trip to the Concrete Convention and a front row seat to see Sir Elton at Caesar's.

Thanks lads, I'll edit the previous Stakers list to include you both.

I'm not touting for business, btw, but if I don't update it whilst I remember, I'll get in a right mess.

Just in case he vanishes into the ether for another few decades:
Let's hear what you were going to tell us about Terry Downes via Dave Charnley.

I disappeared for a few weeks Ralph, sorry.

It was something & nothing really, but Terry Downes was a bit of a hero to me in my adolescent years, for the strangest reason - I once saw him in real life.

Odd really, but we "connect" with people when we meet them, especially celebs or sporting stars. Well I do, anyway.

He was amongst the first to open Betting Shops after they were legalised (late fifties/early sixties?) & he had one in Horn Lane, Acton, right opposite Acton Main Line Station, think he had 7 or 8.

Word was, he was just a "front", & they were really owned & run by some shady sorts. No idea if that is true.

Her eventually sold the chain to Wm Hill, & made a pretty penny I believe.

I may be wrong, but I have it in my mind he was very popular with the public.

Here's an interview I found about him, dated 2011, (he's still alive & well to this day), I think you might just enjoy this.

Quite amazing, from this photo, how little he has changed.

Seems like he enjoyed his money whilst he had it, too, this, presumably, was from the sale of his Betting Shops.

Brings back so many memories of a certain time of my life, all this.

Great article that Tony most enjoyable.

I had completely forgotten about his "perishing hooter" until my memory was jogged but he was certainly a very good and popular fighter. I  remember those betting shops which he allegedly fronted for some serious villains, but that sort of thing was commonplace in the 1960's when gambling first became legal.

Do you recall The Colony Club fronted by Gearge Raft for Meyer Lansky, and Charlie Chester's casino in Soho?

Only from reading all the "London Gangster" books, where George Raft was frequently mentioned.

His career went into serious decline, & he became a "greeter" at Casinos & Dodgy Dives all over the place, first in Cuba, for the Mob, & later, in London.

In London, he was mixed up with the Krays, Freddie Foreman & Mad Frankie Fraser, you can't get more dodgy than that. If I had to choose to get beaten to a pulp by Freddie or Frankie, it'd be a close run thing.

Here's George with a few of his London underworld friends, including the Karys, & Freddie Foreman.

Rocky Marciano is in this one, too.

Before we leave George Raft & move on, found this fascinating little titbit about him on Wiki.

Seems he was not the brightest of sorts, as evidenced by this tale.....

Following the release of the espionage thriller Background to Danger (1943), a film intended to capitalize on the success of Casablanca, Raft demanded termination of his Warner Brothers contract. Jack Warner was prepared to pay Raft a $10,000 settlement, but the actor either misunderstood or was so eager to be free of the studio that it was he who gave Warner a check in that amount. Raft is widely believed to have been functionally illiterate, which could account for the confusion.

He moved in the right circles though, here he is with someone called Betty Grable, who Karabiner will remember well.

And finally, gotta love these high-waisted trousers. Looks pretty cool, I'd say.

How much for the % Boss?

Poker Total approx $15,000
Latte Total approx $25,000
Concrete Order $5,000
Random "punting" $5,000.

By my calculations 1% = $500

Concrete budget might be a bit misleading. Can't imagine he's going to get 5k worth of concrete in his case. Unless that's a euphemism for his trips to the Glitter Gulch. Not my field of expertise. Would imagine 5k is a relatively easy spend in some of those establishments, although I would imagine the ones downtown are a little cheaper, because everything else is down there.

Sounds like a fairly good diary, mind. Jeeves going?
