Don't know if you managed to catch this Teeks  http://www.discoveryuk.com/shows/racing-extinction/

repeated tonight at 10pm on Animal Planet

Morning David,

I did actually, yes - in fact it seemed to be "Racing-Extinction" night last night on the Docs Channel, numerous similar Shows were on.

So I had finished my poker session, I watched it, which was a bit depressing really. Then I watched 2 old "Thick of It" episodes, with Malcolm Tucker in full flow in front of the Goodling Inquiry, & Baroness Sureka. There are days when I so want to be Malcolm Tucker, there really are. But it would not work, ranting & raving, shouting at people, never works, never in the history of history has shouting solved a damn thing, people just don't react well to it.  It'd be nice though, when the Serious Heads are on my case at work, to vent occasionally.....

I have to disagree Tikay.

Many a chore has been completed after the wife has bellowed at me to move my fat lazy backside.

I'm sure this is the norm in many a household.

Don't tell the RSM that shouting doesn't work.

Again, that's not a debate, is it?

And I'm quite sure that the astounding success of LvG @ Manchester is not down to shouting. Wink

Couple of options of how you should treat people in the workplace

Could only find one with subtitles but had to include when shouting was mentioned!

Ha, very good Matthew.

"Gold", or "Dave", I can't recall which, had a "Top 40 Blackadder Moments" last night. Had to record that. It improves with age. Bit like me I suppose. The Forum Next Door is broken this morning, hence I'm on catch up here until it returns, then I'll go address the daily moans & groans.

It's not fair

I did get my come-uppance yesterday though, when one chap, who disliked my reply, stated "I do not intend to continue this dialogue with you".

Seems fair enough.

Australia's longest-ever grain train has rolled across north-western New South Wales carrying 5,000 tonnes of wheat.
Comprised of five locomotives and 73 wagons stretching 1.3km (0.8 miles).

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-australia-34971953

Good spot Mr Dickie.

In the USA, freight trains can be up to 2 miles long, in Canada even longer. I've seen several on the Freight Line that runs past The Rio in Vegas with 180 freight cars.

They are usually triple or even quadruple headed, with double bankers at the rear, & on occasion, paired booster locomotives in the middle.

I suffer from intermittent moistness when I peruse this stuff.

You might like to know that Isabelle Mercier is the first-ever OFC Progressive Pineapple World Champion title

no, i don't know what that is

in prague yesterday

Thanks Rich.

I might be the only person in poker who has no idea, or even cares, what OFC is, never mind "OFC Progressive Pineapple", but I'm delighted for Isabelle. She's just a young lady living the dream. Good luck to her.

Was a little surprised to learn she is now the wrong side of 40.

When I first met her, she was under the spell of, sort of mentored by, so to speak, Bruno Fituoissi @ the now deceased Aviation Club de France.

I'm still good friends with Bruno, never once paid for a meal at ACF, & spent some private time with him in Vegas this year, but I can't say he's aged quite as well as Isabelle.

i don't know if you follow militaria at all, but did you see this design for the USS Zumwalt?

The USS Zumwalt, the largest destroyer ever built for the US Navy.

The 610-foot, 15,000-ton behemoth has begun sea trials before joining the US fleet some time in 2016. Its price tag of $4.4 billion (£2.9 billion) is almost as astounding as its bulk, but US Navy Captain James Kirk, the ship's skipper, said he was "fired up" for the Zumwalt to finally set off for the Atlantic Ocean.

So advanced are the Zumwalt's stealth capabilities, that it registers on radar as a small vessel, about the size of a fishing boat. It is about 100ft longer and 20ft wider than the navy's current class of destroyers, and boasts more advanced weaponry. Its computer-guided missile system can hit targets up to 63 miles away, and it may eventually be equipped with a laser weapon or electromagnetic rail gun.

militaria

Like that word.

That destroyer, as ships go, is as ugly & soul-less in appearance as the US Air Force Stealth thing.

Don't wish to tempt fate, but I'm pretty sure ISIS or some other Terrorist group could find a way to destroy either if they so chose. If the Twin Towers can be reduced to a heap of rubble in under an hour, most anything can.

Surely it's an absolute million Isis could destroy that. They couldn't get close enough to it. I don't think a somewhat unprotected building can be compared to a warship. The twin towers probably couldn't happen now with the air response on standby, although I do think there are other ways of bringing a building down.

I think that you've said before that you don't have much time for Shakespeare but calling someone a "whoreson obscene greasy tallow-catch" will usually get the upper hand in an argument imo

Accepting that I may regret this question; how do they manage to get so many engines that are so far apart to work together?

Surely just the slightest difference in speed between any of the engine cars means they're acting against each other. Can't quite get my head around it for some reason.

Yeah I think its easy to get caught up in the media portrayal of the capabilities of groups like these.

Construction work on the WTC commenced in 1967 so we're talking about a building constructed with 35-year-old techniques and materials in an age where the size of commercial aircraft ballooned.

The Boeing 707 that the buildings were designed to withstand an impact from had a wingspan of 130 feet and carried 51,000 litres of fuel. The 767-223ER that hit the WTC had a wingspan of 156 feet and carried 91,000 litres of fuel.

Military bombers have been around since the first world war, how close is IS to having any of those? The Americans can't even get the Afghan army flying. The planes that the US military provided them just sit there gathering dust.

These are the rules of the game though, terror groups don't need to kill very many people at all for the media to declare that they are winning.
