Mooching round the blonde House this morning, I came across the best explanation of the word "decorum" I've ever seen.

the prescribed limits of appropriate social behavior within a set situation.

Nail, head.

If the set situation is a poker table, the limits of appropriate behaviour seem to be fairly undefined.

I disagree. The fact that it's poker sets the tone. Poker is a game, a recreation, something to be enjoyed by all. Our behaviour helps to determine the enjoyment or otherwise of others.

"fairly undefined". Somehow that seems gramatically awkward. Can something be "fairly" undefined? As opposed to very undefined, or a tinsy-winsy bit undefined? It's either defined, or undefined, surely?

Can it be "Somewhat indistinct"?

Failing that. we will plump (plumpt)? for "Open to interpretation".

Young Reece goes into Hossie tomorrow, I think, for his Biggie.

We mess about moaning & groaning about the foibles of poker, but that young man has a big problem, his courage is an example to us all, ditto Mum, Nanna & Grandad.

Get it won Reece.

Does it have to be a digital thing?  Can there not be levels of how well something is defined?  The rules of poker for example.  Are they well defined?  Why are there countless discussions about the correct course of action in certain situations?  The rules are fairly well defined, but they are not defined absolutely.  Poker 'decorum' is not as well defined - for some the 'whooping and hollering' is perfectly acceptable behaviour, as are the rub-downs by someone who's won a hand, or the outbursts by someone who's lost a hand.  You might look at that behaviour as unacceptable in terms of decorum.  I'd say it's fairly undefined.

The same way as I could say you're a fairly decent player, and I'm a fairly average player.

Maureen, there you go. As well as the notes on here, I've had two PM's of similar ilk.

Go buy him a new DVD player, & we will sort out the money between us & give it to you when we see you.

If it needs collecting & delivering, I'm in Manchester all day. Just say.

Reece has a new DVD player, sorted, we just spoke on the 'phone

We will give Mureen the cash when we see her.

As well as the kind offers on this thread, Eck PM'd Maureen too.

It's about £90, so I'll collect a bit from those who offered, & give it all to Maureen.

Julian Thew, by the way, has already made a very moving private contribution a while back, & what's left of that is earmarked for a holiday for Reece & the Family after the Op.
