The Times reports that in Rotherham, of all places, people in the streets are being terrorised by an European Eagle Owl.

One can hope.

I'm luck neutral right now, my hands are holding up, but I'm not getting that little bit of extra luck when I need it.

Call that luck neutral??  Not that I've calculated it, but having all your own hands hold up would probably equate to something like the 65 percentile on the luck-o-meter?

As for the rest, stop getting your chips in when in such bad shape and you won't need to call on that extra bit of luck when needed!

You are, of course, right Simon.

But you know what I mean't. You just need those occasional "action hands" when the chips get shovelled in now & then. I am, I think, luck neutral, & my hands are mosly holding up, but truth is, my money is not in the middle very often.

It's at that lovely part of the Tourney where I most enjoy it, 2 tables out, when you need to be on high-alert to spot the openings & situations. The DTD play with Q-8 was a booboo - get the money in first in these spots, always.

I've had a think about last night's debacle at Manchester-G.

Really, it all came down to that QQ v AA jobbie, everything after that was sort of as a result of it.

It was not the worst Pass in the world either, I can easily go broke with QQ v AA on th 9 high Turn. But I did over half my stack, & after that, I had to play different to get back in the Comp. I'm not usually going to get my whole stack in with A-Q pre if I have average or nearly so. But I needed to make things happen. And I succeeded.

I think by definition we are all destined to be luck-neutral when the time comes to cash our mortal chips in.  But if that is the case, I am due a 3 year heater at some point  Grin

I'm sure there is definitely a decent article or two to be written on the 2 tables out (<£100, not many chips in play) situations.  There are still plenty of times you can witness ridiculous snap calls, moves with no fold equity, folding to death, etc and I have probably been guilty at some point or other of each category, as will most people be.  Perhaps the most interesting trend I've witnessed is an overwhelming desire by some for the FPS ~ making a play because they like making plays, rather than it suiting their tourny circumstance at the time.  It is more satisying winning an event without seeing a hand, for sure, rather than just getting very lucky when dominated a few times and getting paper cuts from the deck.  But some do seem to get a little too carried away with it.

Reece has a new DVD player, sorted, we just spoke on the 'phone

We will give Mureen the cash when we see her.

As well as the kind offers on this thread, Eck PM'd Maureen too.

It's about £90, so I'll collect a bit from those who offered, & give it all to Maureen.

Julian Thew, by the way, has already made a very moving private contribution a while back, & what's left of that is earmarked for a holiday for Reece & the Family after the Op.

I've been out for a couple of hours trying to get the golf ball to go further than the divot  Roll Eyes

But I'll happily make a contribution towards Reece's DVD.

Bloody immigrants!

Therein lies the problem - they were native to GB - and there are breeding pairs in the wild here. BUT the RSPB (to be called the RSBNP in the future mayhaps) won't recognise them as a returned ex-native species and want them culled from the wild - even though long migrations have been shown on the continent. The RSPBNP insist that they can only be escaped falconers (and worse - exotic pet owners) birds & that in no way can the spread of Eagle Owls across Europe have crossed the channel.

You ever seen one Rod, like a real one? What magnificent specimens they seem to be, those wings so clever, & so complicated.

Not quite an Eagle Owl, but I've seen a few (or probably the same one) Barn Owls on my way home from DTD, not far from the Ratcliffe Power Station.  Amazing birds to watch in flight, although quite a distraction when you're driving.
