Tourney Report.

Busted half way.

These are the interesting hands I got involved in.

These are both the Pots I won.

This is the Tourney Story.

Arrived early. Got chips early. Gave them back early. Went home early.

That's all folks.

106 runners tonight for the £300 Double Chance, 2 x 3,500, 45 minute clock.

Chatted with Raaby, he's bullish for a decent field for the GUKPT Main Event - 134 entered so far, I believe. This was the Comp that Monty Burns & Bazza duelled in Heads-Up last year.

Back to tonight.

Faces noted included

James Akenhead.

Zafar Aslam.

Lynne Beaumont, along with Sky Poker's James Browning. A smashing couple. James Browning's Plasma Nick was "Hollywood"!

Sunny Chatta. (Going well).

Dave Gardner - not seen him for ages, thought he'd moved to Thailand.

Lawrence Gosney. Out early.

Steve Holden - 5th in yesterday's £200.

Ash & Ghalib Hussain. Watch oiut for Ghalib, future big winner.

C T "John" Law. Won over $600,000, great WSOP record.

Alan McLean. 80 if he's a day. Still fearless. Won over $650,000 in Fessies alone. Was unwell tonight - passed 2 hands pre-flop, & once passed after betting.

James Morgan - said to have won SEVEN GUKPT Seats Online this year.

Rayaaz Mulla

Osman Mustanoglu

Billy Ngo - Finalled in the £200

Mo Nicholson

Iqbal Patel

Rob Sherwood - never saw him to speak to.

Nick Slade. Out early.

Dave Smith. New hat.

My starting table was the biggest poker table I've ever sat on. The bet line was 2 feet from the rail, I could barely reach it!

I was Seat 8, & seats 2 & 3 were over the horizon line. I could not see them, never mind their cards. It was a converted 5-a-side pitch I think.

I was sandwiched between Mulla on my right, & Ash Hussain on my left. Great table company, plenty banter. Mulla Raises EVERY hand, but that's fine by me, I can pick & choose when to get involved, & I got my early chips from him. And passed them along to Ash Hussain.

My next Table had short-stacked Nick Slade on it. He bluffed me off one hand, & I got them back with an iffy but good call, "on the come", which hit. He Passed two hands pre. He plays the player rather than his hand, & he's well dangerous if he gets chips. Lynne Beaumont was on it to, she's solid, steady, & tough to get off hands.

Next Table had Sunny Chatta - great table presence - and Alan McLean. Alan is extraordinary, he's like a Scandie Pensioner. He stays in the North West these days, & makes Final Tables for fun.

That's it really. I had nothing to make things happen with, & nothing happened. No real hands, missed every flop, bluffed off too many chips. The Cardroom was way too cramped, & follks had to shove past every time they moved around.

I've become used to 9 seater Tables, & 10 to a (normal-sized) Table is just that bit too much. It's an age thing.

Think I'll give tomorow's £250 Omaha a miss, & go down to DTD, to fish in shallower waters, I'm not running too good.

I hope the rest of the week at Manchester-G goes well - Raaby has worked his socks off, & delivered a great product.

So, M62 & M1 await tomorrow. Can't say I've ever liked Manchester much. We have grass, hills, trees, sheeps & that sort of stuff in Derbyshire. Better situation.

Humphrey Lyttleton - "Humph" - famed for "I'm Sorry, I Haven't a Clue", but really an accomplished jazz musician by trade, who still Tours, is unwell, & been admitted into Hossie. He's 82. This springs ISIHaC has been cancelled.

He has the driest & funniest wit you could ever imagine. I hope he soon recovers. He's an Institution.

Reece's Big Op started at about 0930 this morning, & should be complete by around 6pm.

Good luck to him, & spare a thought for Stacey, Maureen & Darren - it's hard to imagine how they must feel right now.

The triple-blend of an affluent society, greed, & stupidity, produces some remarkable scams.

We've all been sent those flyers by Racehorse Tipsters - "get on - I have a 16/1 winner lined up for Saturday. Send me money". That later spread to the "Trading" the Gee-Gees & Cherry-Hogs on the exchanges, for which the hapless mug punter sends cash to a trusted someone who punts it for them, based on so-called "inside knowledge". That invariably ends in "send more money". Amazingly often, more money get's sent too. The world is full of stupid, greedy people, with more money than they know what to do with, trying to find an easy way to make even more.

The biggest scam around right now is "boiler rooms", where worthless Shares are sold by high-pressure cold-callers. Who in their right mind would invest 5 & even 6 figures in Shares about which you know nothing, because a stranger 'phoned you up from Spain or whatever hawking the Shares? The Great Train Robbers got life sentences for collectively robbing £2.5 million. These Boiler Rooms have siphoned off over £300 million of suckers money in the last 12 months alone. The Law is powerless, because they operate in regions outwith the remit of the FSA.

On Radio 4 today, one woman told of her husband, who got suckered by greed & stupidity into "investing" (writing off) £250,000 in one of these Boiler Room Scams. He later took his life.

There are many a short-cut to making "easy" money, but generally they lead to dead ends. Honest toil takes some beating though.

This site .....

http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/boiler-rooms

....nicely explains the Boiler Room concept.

Boiler Room, one of my favourite movies ever

http://imdb.com/title/tt0181984/

about boiler rooms in the 80's, probably the peak of this practice in the states. shows how easily suckered in people are
