What about one of a kind the stu ungar story - one of my favourite reads
A walk in the woods - Bill Bryson
A year in Provence - Peter mayle
Legionnaire-Simon Murray

My worst read the Keith Richards story - so long so boring I stuck with it but it was like wading thro glue ?
Do you persevere with a boring book / read small sections in between others ? As I do !

On my favourite train line, from Glasgow to Inverness, fantastic scenic route. Already spotted roe deer, a fox, herons, a buzzard and a flock of geese, should see red deer when we get up into the snow. Back down in the morning.

You lucky man.

Whilst you were admiring the spectacular views from Glasgow to Inverness, I was on the Virgin East Coast Main Line to Leeds. Passes right by Elland Road stadium, as it happens. Nothing to see there.

Strange you should mention that Inverness train journey.

A few years back, when Gill & I were in Scotland, we visited (several times) Kyle of Lochalsh Station, also Plockton Station, & Duirinish Station.

Since then, our Bucket List has included taking the train from Kyle of Lockalsh to Inverness.

Just reading the station names gives us a tingle. Is there a more spectacularly pretty railway line anywhere in the UK?

And does any single railway line have such a collection of wonderfully named Stations?

  Kyle of Lochalsh

  Duirinish

  Plockton

  Duncraig

  Stromeferry

  Attadale

  Strathcarron

  Achnashellach

  Achnasheen

  Achanalt

  Lochluichart

  Garve

  Far North Line

  Dingwall

  Conon Bridge

  Muir of Ord

  Beauly

  River Ness

  Rose Street Junction

  Welsh's Bridge Junction

  Inverness

you really should come up this way for the steam railway

Corrour station fwiw

I have never been here, but don't think I have ever seen such a series of gushing reviews anywhere.

Impossible to get trolled from there with no phone signal.

Let me know what it is like!

Seems you can also stay at Atlnabraec station too

There is a one bed as well.  A whole week 15 miles from civilisation might be a struggle though.

I have a question for you this morning. It has not exactly kept me awake at night, but it keeps coming back to me.

Just suppose you had watched the Blondie Concert in the Park, at Hyde Park in 2014. It was very good you know, especially Tommy Kessler's extravagant guitar solo in Atomic.

Now just suppose you liked - really liked - that sort of black strappy thing she was wearing over that delicate silk dress. She has aged rather better than I have, to be fair, but her choice of apparel does bother me on occasion.

So you wander down to Matalan or M & S to buy one just like it.

What exactly would you ask for?

possibly the wrong audience to be asking that to

i think i would be reduced to printing out a picture and showing it to the assistant with a look of helplessness and asking if they had any (in my size)

You would need a strap between the legs for abseilling.  Ms Harry would just plunge to her doom using that as a harness.   Equally as useless as a piece of clothing to be fair.

Oh Debbie what have you done.  Going to have to rip the poster down.   Lil Dave had a much better idea of what was needed to boost the views.

I'll ask the others if I can discuss it with outsiders.
