I say "well done mate" with a forced smile, pick up my bits and bobs and go to leave the table.

The table are looking at me gone out.

I look again - and realise the river is

So I have the nut flush v his two pair.

25,700.

oioi.

I say, oioi.

BOOM!

We are on 90 minute dinner break now, so I have gone back to my room to clear my head and engage in some meditation. Or medication, one or the other.

22,300 at dinner, blinds 250-500 when we resume.

Late reg closes during the dinner break. The plasma currently reads 826 runners, I guess a few punters will buy in during dinner.

I estimate some 300 of the 826 remain, just a rough guess.

4 levels will be played after dinner.

Going by last year, play will resume on day 2 very close to the money.

My table is horrible now. 11 players have bust on here already, so it is stacked with chips.

2 guys to my immediate right are relentlessly raising my blinds. Well, relentlessly raising everyone to be honest.

Think this table will break in about 2 levels time. ( 8 tables to break before ours).

Play has resumed.

The plasma now suggests 870 runners, almost 100 more than last year, and implying that 44 paid in during the dinner break. Or that the plasma was wrong. I suggest the latter.

Still no news of how many remain, but I'm taking the unders on 300.

Level 7 complete.

Bit of a shocker for me, I either froze, or got frozen out, only played one hand all level. That's a 1 hour level.

17,000 @ 300-600. That's under 30 Bigs. Does not leave much wriggle room.

Amazingly, we lost 72 (SEVENTY TWO) players that level.

Of the 870 entrants, 627 have bust, leaving 243 remaining.

I was hoping my table would break, but they are breaking from the wrong end and it won't break for ages.

Uh-oh, trouble.

We go to the flop 3 way after a flurry of pre-flop raising.

I have K-K-Q-J double suited.

It comes A-A-X, geezer leads out, next bloke moves all in. I have to let go.

Down to 12,000 now, which is 20 Bigs for the next half hour.

Gonna have to do something soon.

We just finished the last break of day one. 2 levels left today.

Doubled up last hand before the break to take me to 24,000, with blinds about to go 400-800, which is 30 bigs.

Just 192 left, of which 131 get paid.

A few nice hands now would be just the job, if not it will be a bum clencher.

One good level please.....

And promptly doubled down again, when my flopped Q-Q-Q failed to hold.

Bugger.

That was my spot to guarantee a deep run and at the very least, the first cash of the trip.

Need a bit of luck now.

Doubled up to 16,000 (20 Bigs).

And in even better news, this table breaks next. The 2 fellas to my right have been a proper pain, had me handcuffed all night. Change of table might make all the difference.

180 left.

20 Bigs is not great, but it's enough to make most stacks wince, providing I use it properly and apply pressure.

Bloody Nora, if this table breaks it will be due to sheer weight of chips. Everyone is totally caked up.

I won't be getting anyone off with a 3 bet, that's for sure, but if I can find a hand that holds we might have a chance yet.

Come in Tony. We're on the edge of our seats here. I might have to get up and make a cup of tea.

We find this UTG + 1:

UTG limps, we limp, 2 others limp, button can't resist making it 3,000, and UTG peels.

Perfect.

POT

It is all in for me, and the pot is around 34,000.

They all fold to UTG (monsta stack) and he calls saying "my hand plays great v aces".

He has:

We see this flop;

His flush draw is dead ( bar the straight flush) but he has an open ender and a two pair draw. He has to swerve (most) diamonds though.

Turn is a brick, river is the chuffing  and it's all over baby.

Bit disappointed, but it is what it is. We were so close to the money again.
