As far as I can see

1981 was more "hand bags at dawn" really
1995 Was a full blown war with a peace treaty (Montevideo Declaration) and everything.

Like I said, Its debatable...

think you're right about the handbags. it all comes down to whether they declared war on each other or not. I think they did but not 100%.

this is, one would imagine, one of those subjects that causes fights between tweed clad professors in history faculties all around the world

Its what causes the need to use leather patches on their elbows.

Incidentally, Bold Edge's Sire was not "Bevemer", as you state, it was "Beveled" I believe.

You are correct of course...it's my memory that's letting me down, see?

John White, Killed by a Lightning strike on a golf course.

Did you know that he was killed by the lightning striking the metal of his fly-zipper whilst sheltering under a tree ?

And wasn't Bill Brown the spuds goalie in the double winning team ?

Talking of Flushy effiminance, he graced the Sky Brighton Day with his presence - invited especially as a "Celeb"! - & livened up proceedings a treat, he was on great form. I was a bit bothered by the pics on blonde showing him with a Sailor, so here's on to redress the balance. The young chap with him is one Barbara Viola, a very tidy player indeed.

sorry to interupt the proffessional thread but i cant believe nobodys mentioned it yet but c'mon look at flushys face, he's terified!

Having an absolute pig of a day or two, & have now cancelled all plans for today. Tonight will be the first night in ages where I've either not "worked" or played poker (my lovely little holiday last week apart) that I can remember. I've been devestated by some un-necessary business shit, & it's put a great big bloody cloud over me. Bugger.

Still, it means I will be able to get up bright & early in the morning to fly to Dublin for the APAT weekend, my EMA flight is at 6.30. I got lucky, actually, as I thought it was from Luton, until Rich pointed out to me it was EMA. I really ought to read things more carefully - narrow escape that!

So, a good few hours of writing ahead of me, & an early night. You have been warned.

Reading things more carefuully is very apt, actually.

MPower (Regards) sorts out my car services for me, & he got Sytners to book my car in for it's service. They are incredibly efficient, & even confirm it all by Text. It was confirmed for this Tuesday, & those who know the state my car gets into (well I do live in it) will have guessed that most of Monday was spent emptying it of coffee cups, crisp bags, sandwich boxes, etc. I mean, Sytners Valet it beautifully, so I feel a weird need to clean it first. I know, it makes no sense.....

Anyway, I sort of built the early part of the week around the Car Service on Tuesday - it's awkward, it's 10 miles from home (opposite DTD actually), & arrived there bang on time at 11am, car nicely empty of toot.

The Nice Man looked at me gone out, after tapping thouands of keys on his PC. "You sure it's today Mr Kendall?"

Well, does he think I'm daft, or what? Why would I come all this way if it was not today? Mr Nice Man is a plonker. I smugly find the Sytner Confirmation Text on my Moby & hand it to him - "err, well your Text would appear to say it's today, my friend" I ironically rejoined.

He looks at the 'phone, & appears embarrassed, as he should, I'm thinking.

"It's Tuesday the 10th today Sir" says plonker.

"Well done" I reply.

"It says here on your 'phone that the car is booked for Tuesday the 17th".

"Exactly. See you next week, Just checking. Have a nice day".

"You too Sir".

Grassington (Yorkshire Dales) High Street, last Thursday. A picture that says so much about the Yorkshire Dales. Don't see much of that in Feltham, or bolty land.

Same for me yesterday, but it's working OK today. Bongo's been alerted to the problem already, it's on his list.......

Only in England. The pic does not do justice to the beauty & serenity of this spot. Yorkshire Dales, again.

Hardcore images - look away now. This was taken at Goathland Station, on the North Yorkshire Moors. Goathland has a dual identity, & all the signs with "Goathland" on have temporary replacements saying "Addensfield", as it's where "Heartbeat" is/used to be filmed. It (Goathland) appears to be owned by the Duchy of Lancaster, as D-O-L signs are everywhere.

This picture (also taken at Goathland) says so much about the era in which that Milk wagon was used.

"Milk for London".

"London" would have been said, reverentially, toffing-the-cap-ly, with a sort of "ooh".

"London" was Headquarters, where the posh people lived, where the Queen lived, where Government was, where the power was. Country-folk would starve themselves to ensure London got milk, & fresh vegetables & fruit.

Nowadays, the people from the provinces & regions, even Scotland, are less respectful, some even think they are as important as Londoners. It's extraordinary, how standards are slipping.
