Clinton and Lewinsky ... a politician gets caught with his dick where it shouldnt be ... nothing new there then.
Why has this etched itself into your memory ?
yet Nixon & watergate doesnt even make the shortlist ?
Watergate is at the top of his list...
Ooooops my bad ....
Question remains though, why clinton and the bird who is partial to a cigar or 2 ??
The Clinton thing is a bit odd - it's almost like I remember it for the
jaw-dropper
of a quote Clinton came out with, on Live TV, & his surprise that he never got it through.
He said - & I quote almost perfectly, all those years on...
"I never had sex with
that woman
".
It was the put-down, the rubdown, the arrogance, embodied in the phrase "that woman". She was not "that woman" when he was getting his way with her.
If ever a man needed to NOT antagonise his ex knock-off, it was then. And he said that, on Live TV. And then wondered why she chased him through the Courts.
lol
Glad someone spotted it, Alan. That's the thing with this "flaming" debate, see. A little bit of creativity & you can get away with murder.

The Hillsborough, Bradford and Heysel disasters are forever imprinted on my memory. As a Liverpool fan, Hillsborough was the saddest day, Heysel the darkest.
Bradford, yes, that disturbed me a lot.
It's best I don't comment on Hillsborough or Heysel.
You probably won't comment, but please don't group the two together. The causes of the two were very, very different.

How about the Berlin Wall coming down TK? Big news . I remember Senna' s crash. The troops coming home from the Falklands. We went out on a boat to wave them in. 9/11 surley the biggest tho.
The Falklands is already in. Stunning, every facet of it. (The story).
Senna's crash. Yes, a defining moment, as we watched the blood flow from his dying body, trackside. Not quite Top 10 though. (For me, that is).
Berlin Wall. I feel bad for omitting it, but there's just not room. It's the stories which most affected
me
. I'm sure it'd be in most people's lists.
9/11. Already explained.

Tianaman Sq
Challanger explosion
Chernoybl
Asian Tsunami
Tiananmen was one of those iconic moments - but unfortunately for many the larger importance of the demonstrations has long been forgotten.
The other three should be on tikay's list imo.

How many died in the Challenger explosion? 5? 6? Sad, very sad, but hardly earth-shattering. Not to me, anyway.

Thanks, but no thank you, & I'm not being disrespectful. My mind is fairly fixed on the causes of both.

Based on what 'evidence'?
Heysel is pretty clear cut. I'd be interested to chat about your thoughts on Hillsborough over a cup of tea.

At last! That's what I needed, to see someone else's list.
Straight away, I can see some errors in mine.
Kings Cross Disaster. ADDED.
Miners Strike - though it's partly covered by the "Thatcher Years"., But worth it's own entry. Stunning tale.

No, please don't drag me into a debate on Hillsborough.

I haven't thought about my top 10 yet, but I would definitely have to include the 1998 Human Rights Act (Esp article 14)
This act came into force on 2 October 2000, (Just in time for me) and it made a huge difference to the lives of millions of people
Article 14 Prohibition of discrimination
The enjoyment of the rights and freedoms set forth in this Convention shall be secured without discrimination on any ground such as sex, race, colour, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, association with a national minority, property, birth or other status.
Here is the act in full.

I think in my list would be the Yorkshire Ripper.
Would I be alone in that?
