We were always taught to respect everyone, (until given good reason not to) My dad would have gone barmy if he caught us being disrespectful.

I was taught people had to earn my respect, but i was very well brought up so it was always assumed i wouldnt start coating someone off for no reason

My weekly wage was a Tenner then.

I was an Indentured Apprentice, & this guy poached me. "What are your dreams Tony?".

I'm thinking like £12 pounds 10 shillings a week.

"Come & work for me, & I guarantee you, within 5 years, you'll be on a minumum - MINIMUM - of £1,000 per year".

He got his man, that deal lasted 19 years, & what a story that was, with the most amazing ending.

When it ended - very suddenly- I was penniless, car-less, homeless, & jobless.

And so began another even more amazing chapter.

I so wish I had time to commit all this stuff to paper, just for my own benefit really.

My childhood would be a book in itself, & I don't say that lightly.

Most of the boxes are ticked now, even the mortgage is paid off. Bit sad, in some ways, very satisfying in others.

[ X ] Pay off mortgage.

For me personally i neither respect or disrespect someone who i don't know no matter who that person is if i don't no anything about them how can i respect them.I would have no reason or wish to insult someone or praise someone that i knew nothing about,then over time there behaviour and other things would determine whether i feel they deserve my respect and only someone who i thought was disrepectful themselves is likely to get any "shit" for want of a better term from me.

I know exactly what I want to say in response to Mond's post, but am not sure I can articulate it properly. I'll try anyhow. I think there's some confusion somewhere between basic respect that should be paid to anyone unless they have wronged us somehow (and it would have to be pretty badly to have reached a level where that basic respect for another human being should be withdrawn imo), and reverence.
