Dingdell

Hollyoaks Girls pictures please. With respect, that should be your priority. No need to worry your little head about Colliders, Semolina and the like

Getting back to the interesting LHC stuff

Theoretically.....if I stuck my hand inside that tubey thing, would I feel anything?

I bet I would not, & the Boffins would say,.....

"ah well, no, you can't feel, see or touch quorks & protons & stuff like that, don't be silly".

How many "beams" (allegedly) circulate at the same time, in each direction?

You know that bit in the original Star Wars film where Obi Wan cuts off the hand of the bad guy in the bar with a lightsabre? It'd be something like that, were it actually possible, given it all runs in a vacuum. Each beam could melt 1 ton of copper. Your hand isn't going to prevent much difficulty Smiley.

One "beam" in each direction consists of 2800 "bunches" of protons with 10^11 protons in each bunch. So, at rest, a "beam" would weigh less than 1 nanogram. Which isn't much. But they're going pretty quickly Smiley.

Ok - basic question - how come it goes round in a circle - why doesn't it go straight and cut through the metal/concrete?

Magnets innit?

Apparently yes - fascinating article. Looking forward to chatting about this today with my clients, it will make a nice change from what colour lipstick Beyonce is currently wearing!

Still think the Hadron Collider is a bad idea, nothing I have read has convinced me otherwise, however I don't want to be in a position to say "I told you so"!

Just for completeness Gordon Ramseywhen exactly did you cook these?....!

FTR - par boiled potatoes drained and jiggled about in the pan to get the edges fluffy. Sprinkle with dry semolina and immediately place in a tray of hot fat - ideally goose fat. As per saint Delia have the tray on the hob with the burners going to keep the fat smoking as you add the potatoes. Never fails.

Ah, wonderful, wonderful, Delia.

A few years back a pal of mine was working on the broadcast of one one of her cookery shows, filmed at Chez Smith.

Delia - being such a kind soul - had insisted that the film crew had Welfare Facilities provided outside her lovely home (as she was far too posh to have 'mere mortals' using her khazi!).

Anyhow, the Screeching Norwich Burd spent much of the ensuing week asking if they'd seen her Tabby, who'd gone AWOL.

Nope    ....    and filming concluded.

When clearing the 'site', the Hi-Ab was lifting the Welfare Portakabin onto the lorry    ....      and Kitty was found.

Said - squashed -feline had been 'sunbathing' - unnoticed - when the cabin was originally craned off.

A black bin liner was the last blanket that cat ever saw - such was the fear of the wrath, should Cruella find out.

I wonder if Delia's still looking for her lost cat?

She needs to be careful. There could be a rush to get to the front of the queue.
